Unbelievable Incident on WNBA Court: What Really Happened When a Flying Object Struck a Player?
You ever think you’ve seen it all at a basketball game—then BAM! A sex toy gets launched straight from the stands and nearly smacks a star player right on the court? Yeah, me neither. But that’s exactly what went down during Tuesday’s WNBA clash between the Indiana Fever and the LA Sparks in Los Angeles. Around two minutes left in the second quarter, an unexpected projectile soared through the air, landing inches from Fever’s Sophie Cunningham, who couldn’t help but laugh off the bizarre assault before her teammate kicked it back to the stands. Now, if throwing random objects is old hat, this new “court accessory” trend takes the cake—especially since someone was arrested just a week earlier for a very similar stunt in Atlanta. Makes you wonder, is this a twisted form of fan engagement or just a ploy to get banned from every WNBA game? Either way, the league’s taking no chances, slapping eject-and-ban policies on anyone who thinks it’s funny to toss anything onto the court. And poor Sophie? She even warned fans, tweeting to stop the madness—only to become the prime target herself. Talk about jinxing yourself in style! Curious how this saga unfolded and what the league’s really saying about player safety? LEARN MORE
A sex toy has been thrown from the stands in Los Angeles as Indiana Fever played the LA Sparks during a WNBA match, hitting one of the star players on court.
Happening with around two minutes left in the second quarter in Tuesday’s game (5 August), the sex object soared through the air to land next to Fever’s Sophie Cunningham, before it was kicked into the stands by Kelsey Plum.
Of course, you’ve got to take a few minutes to recover from something like that, and it seems like Cunningham was all grins when she walked to the Sparks bench and couldn’t contain her laughter.
While toys of other nature have been known to be thrown on the court, such as pencils and children’s playthings, someone was arrested a week ago in Atlanta during the fourth quarter of the Dream’s game against Golden State in College Park, Georgia.

The fan was ejected from the arena, according to the WNBA, and faces a one-year ban.
Then, on Friday, a sex toy was thrown in Chicago during the third quarter of Golden State’s 73-66 win over the Sky.
An official kicked the object away, and it was subsequently picked up and discarded.
To this, the league said in a statement: “The safety and well-being of everyone in our arenas is a top priority for our league. Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or in the seating area can pose a safety risk for players, game officials, and fans.
“In line with WNBA Arena Security Standards, any fan who intentionally throws an object onto the court will be immediately ejected and face a minimum one-year ban in addition to being subject to arrest and prosecution by local authorities.”
However, it seems there’s a reason why it happened in Los Angeles yesterday. It seems as though a fan took a plea from Cunningham as a challenge.
On August 2, the sportswoman tweeted in response to the incidents on court in recent days: “Stop throwing dildos on the court… you’re going to hurt one of us.”
Sadly, even she recognized that she’d only gone and jinxed herself after the incident, as she quotes retweeted herself, writing: “This did NOT age well.”
Over on Instagram, she also addressed her tweet last week, telling her followers that: “No way that thing actually hit me. I knew I shouldn’t have tweeted that.”
As it turns out, her tweeting for people to stop, only made her the target!
In response to the latest dildo throw, people online have been trying to express how they feel. Some were perplexed, with one writing: “I thought the dildo guy was arrested? How is this still happening?”
Another said: “I refuse to believe this isn’t some type of marketing tactic.”
Others found the funny side, with one noting: “Bro security fr gonna be checkin for dildos every wnba game now.”
And someone else said: “This is the most hilarious scandal of all time.”
