Everyone knows that when it comes to making a living of content creation and influencing you need to be good at finding ways to monetise yourself, otherwise your career won’t be very lucrative.
However, not every social media platform was created equally and when it comes to making money, some sites offer way more cash to creators.
So how much can you make for a successful clip on YouTube Shorts – and how does it compare to other apps such as TikTok and Instagram?

How much can you make on YouTube Shorts?
Considering that YouTube Shorts is much younger sibling of your traditional YouTube video, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that a successful clip won’t have the same impact money wise.
Explaining how YouTube calculates earnings, TubeBuddy revealed that the average RPM for a long-form video is around $3 (£2.46), which in non-technical terms means that 100,000 views would earn a creator around $300 (£244).

“Of course some creators make a lot more, some a lot less,” he added.
In comparison, the average earning for a YouTube Short is around $0.05 (£0.04) with the same amount of views pulling in a lot less cash.
How much can you make for one million views on YouTube Shorts?
When it came to how much money can be made on a Shorts video which receives over a million views TubeBuddy was able to make a grand total of $99 (£81) for 3.1 million views on their Shorts.
Yes, you read that correctly.
That’s $32 per million views.
Also keen to show the earnings difference between traditional videos and Shorts was the channel vidIQ who revealed they had made an equally meagre $58 (£47) from a million views on their shorts, with an RPM of $0.06.
How does this compare to other platforms?
Like YouTube Shorts, platforms such as TikTok also use the RPM model when it comes to generating how much a creator will get for their content.
Again this will vary drastically from account to account, with various reports citing a figure of around $20-$40 (£16-£32) per million views from the TikTok creator fund (or TikTok Creativity Program), which isn’t too similar to money made on Shorts.
However it’s worth noting that creators from certain countries aren’t eligible for the fund, which means you’ll need to be bagging a lot of brand sponsorships to make ends meet.
