A detective who worked on the harrowing case of Jeffrey Dahmer and the murders he committed spoke about what he saw in the serial killer’s apartment, which still haunt him.

Known as one of America’s most notorious serial killers, Jeffrey Dahmer was eventually imprisoned for his crimes, being given 15 terms of life imprisonment.

The sex offender was bludgeoned to death while serving time in 1994, and his story is one of the most scrutinised in recent times.

A 2022 Netflix series, titled Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, followed the killer from a young age until he became the horrific murderer.

As well as this, a documentary was released in 2023 titled My Son Jeffrey: The Dahmer Family Tapes, which include recordings of conversations between the killer and his father Lionel, as well as family home videos.

Dahmer was sentenced in 1992 for killing 17 men and boys in a vicious spree that went on from 1978 until his arrest in 1991.

He would gruesomely dismember his victims, including a 14-year-old, and committed necrophilia, cannibalism, and even kept trophies of his victims.

But we have to remember that some police officers would have had to apprehend the killer, and even search his apartment for clues.

Shortly after the release of the 2023 documentary, retired Milwaukee Police Department Lieutenant Michael Dubis made an appearance on Fox News to talk about what he witnessed when arresting Dahmer.

Speaking about how it smelt, he recalled: “It was a very sweet smell, it was very chemical (-like) smell, ironically enough, the smell is still in the room where all of his property went that morning.”

“(When) I walk in there, I walk back into it (the apartment),” he said on the news channel.

When asked if he still has nightmares about going into the serial killer’s apartment, the former Lieutenant replied: “Uneasy nights, not nightmares.”

The newscaster then pointed out that it’s understandable, as he is a father himself and has three sons, with all of Dahmer’s victims also being male.

In the interview, he also admitted that he found ‘human heads’ and ‘bones’ found in drawers, while ‘body parts’ were also found in Dahmer’s closet – a discovery that would be enough to scar even the most seasoned police officer.

He also opened up about the fact that the phone in the apartment was ringing while detectives were in the apartment, and it was Lionel on the other end.

After speaking to him for a few minutes, he also noted that while his father was trying to help Jeffrey, it helped him to understand ‘the family’s motives’, as he was trying to be a good dad.
