"Reese Witherspoon's Surprising 'Legally Blonde' Contract Secret: The Hidden Clause She Only Unleashed After 15 Years!"

When it comes to unique contract clauses, the film industry takes the cake—especially when you throw movie stars into the mix! I mean, who doesn’t love a good “you can’t mess with my character” clause? Think about it: The Rock wants to dominate every on-screen brawl, while Queen Latifah has it in writing that her characters will stand strong and never meet their end. And then there’s Will Ferrell, who’s so particular that he made sure the director was out for the sequel! But one of the wildest demands I’ve come across has to be Reese Witherspoon’s request for her wardrobe from Legally Blonde 2—yes, all of it! She made sure to keep those fabulous outfits, and I can’t help but wonder: what do you do with 77 pairs of Jimmy Choo shoes 15 years later? Whether you’re a fan of the pink-loving Elle Woods or just intrigued by the behind-the-scenes antics of Hollywood, there’s a delightful world of contract quirks waiting to be explored! LEARN MORE.

When it comes to unique contract clauses, movie stars might have every other profession beat.

Whether it be The Rock insisting he wants to win every on-screen fight he is in, Queen Latifah refusing to let any character she plays die, or Will Ferrell putting into his contract that the director can’t come back for the sequel, there have been some wild ones over the years.

One of the best, though, may be Reese Witherspoon’s contract clause for Legally Blonde 2.

If Witherspoon’s return as Elle Woods wasn’t iconic enough, she has added yet another memorable element to that by requesting it in writing that she get to keep all of Elle’s clothes from the second film.

Elle’s looks throughout the movie were all scene-stealing, and Witherspoon clearly wanted to be able to pull them on at any time.

Despite this though, that is something she only did 15 years after the film came out.

She said in an interview on The Graham Norton Show in 2023: “I was in England making The Importance of Being Earnest when Legally Blonde came out in America.

“When I went home, my life had changed forever.

“I kept the whole wardrobe including 77 pairs of Jimmy Choo shoes. I had it written in my contract. I didn’t touch them until the 15th anniversary and then had a lot of fun trying them on with my daughter.”

At one point in time, Witherspoon may have gotten a chance to take another set of clothes and shoes to home, with her having confirmed that a third Legally Blonde was in development.

While unclear what she would conquer next after having graduated law school in the first film and banning animal testing in the second, many were excited by the prospect.

Instead, however, they decided to do a prequel called Elle.

She said of this decision in an interview with The Tonight Show: “I saw that Wednesday Addams show and I was like, ‘Oh, she was in high school.’

“I loved it. I watched every episode. I thought it was amazing.

“I was like, ‘We should do Elle Woods in high school,’ because I wanted to see who she was before college, before law school.

“I started having all these ideas, and these amazing writers came up with a great pitch, and now Amazon is making the show.”

The series has seen criticism from fans, but is set to go ahead after being announced in May of last year.
