Margot Robbie has revealed that she almost quit acting after her ‘awful’ experience with fame following her success in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street.

It’s kind of hard now to imagine Hollywood without Margot Robbie.

After starring in box office sensation Barbie, leading the 2018 Oscar race for I, Tonya, and delighting fans with her portrayal of Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, it’s safe to say that she’s earned her reputation as a versatile and successful actress.

However, after starring in Scorsese’s Oscar-nominated smash hit The Wolf of Wall Street, Robbie nearly packed in the fame game because of her experience with her newfound fame.

Although Robbie has been acting since her stint on Australian soap Neighbours, the 2013 flick really catapulted her into the spotlight.

In case you haven’t seen it, The Wolf of Wall Street stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill and follows the true story of Jordan Belfort, who takes a hit after the stock market crashes. Showing us the fast-paced, high energy lifestyle of the stock market, we watch Belfort’s life unravel and the demise of his relationship with Naomi Lapaglia (Robbie).

And although the film put a then-22-year-old Robbie on the map, the Focus actress opened up in a interview with Vanity Fair a few years back about her experience with the sudden interest in her.

“Something was happening in those early stages and it was all pretty awful.

“I remember saying to my mum, ‘I don’t think I want to do this.’ And she just looked at me, completely straight-faced, and was like, ‘Darling, I think it’s too late not to.’ That’s when I realised the only way was forward.”

As any actress in the spotlight will tell you, learning how to navigate the media frenzy is no easy feat.

When asked how she did it, Robbie remarked: “I know how to go through airports, and now I know who’s trying to fuck me over in what ways.

“If my mom dies in a car accident because you wanted a photo of me going in the grocery shop, or you knock my nephew off a bike — for what? For a photo? It’s dangerous but still weirdly nothing feels like it changes.”

She went on to say: “We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led – not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story, which we thought would’ve been really cool. But I guess they don’t want to do it.”
