Apple’s newest iPhone has been announced, but fans have been quick to notice that a huge feature is missing.

It was announced yesterday (19 February) that there would be a new iPhone hitting stores, just five months after the release of the 16, 16 Pro and 16 Max.

In case you missed it, the model has been called the 16e, and it’s a continuation of the beloved, budget-friendly iPhone SE range.

While most iPhones are introduced to eager fans near the end of the calendar year, SE models are known to be announced in the first few months, and this is the most advanced iteration of the model yet.

Featuring no retro home button for the first time, the iPhone 16e is the fourth version of the SE range, and features ‘extraordinary battery life’.

Sadly, if you’ve just got yourself a regular iPhone 16, you might be left kicking yourself as the ‘e’ has a better battery life, featuring four more hours of video playback.

On top of this, the 16e features a 48MP Fusion camera, albeit without the ultra-wide lens.

The official release date for the model has been slated for 28 February, and for £599 for the 128GB model, £699 for the 256GB and £899 for a 512GB storage, it’s not bad value either.

For reference, the regular 16 sits at £799, £899 and £1,099 in those categories respectively.

But you do miss some features if you opt for the cut-price option, such as the absence of MagSafe connectivity.

MagSafe connectivity allows Apple devices to be charged wirelessly, and the technology can be explained as magnets that are under the wireless charger coil that aligns it with accessories, such as cases, stands, and battery packs.

Charging using MagSafe can give you up to 25W faster wireless charging, but the iPhone 16e will have to stick to its standard Qi wireless charging up to 7.5W, making it the first ‘modern design’ iPhone to not feature MagSafe.

Ever since the iPhone 12’s release in 2020, it has been a regular feature on models.

Another feature missing from the budget-friendly option is the inclusion of multiple cameras, with the new SE only having one.

But not to fear, if the model takes your fancy then there are a number of other features to look forward to.

As well as its durable design, it features the latest A18 chip and a four core GPU, while also featuring the first ever cellular modem designed by Apple, the C1.

The 16e will have a Super Retina XDR display, and will be the same size as the standard 16, while having Face ID and a USB-C port.

It will also have Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI system that is only available on its latest models.

There are image editing tools, ChatGPT integration and the all-new action button on the side that can be set to the action of your choice.
