“Halle Berry’s Oscars Shocker: A Public Apology to Adrien Brody’s Wife Before a Steamy Red Carpet Kiss!”

Is there a better way to settle a 20-year-old score than with a surprise kiss at the Oscars? Halle Berry certainly thinks so! Remember that cringe-worthy moment in 2003 when Adrien Brody, fresh off winning the Best Actor award, planted an unsolicited kiss on Berry? Well, fast forward two decades, and Berry decided it was high time for some playful revenge. At this year’s Academy Awards, she approached Brody, now a two-time Best Actor winner, and gave him a cheeky smooch of her own—this time, completely on her terms. With Brody seemingly unbothered and even playful in response, the whole incident has reignited discussions about past COVID-era norms and the very perception of consent in Hollywood. Curious how this all went down and what it reveals about both stars? You’re gonna want to dive right in. LEARN MORE.

Halle Berry has got her own back at Adrien Brody with her own unexpected smooch over 20 years later.

The American model and actress was the subject of an unwelcome kiss from Brody, 51, when she presented him the Best Actor award at the Oscars in 2003.

He has since addressed the backlash against his move as let’s be honest, an unsolicited kiss just isn’t okay.

But at this year’s awards, Berry took charge and laid her lips on this year’s Best Actor winner.

If you haven’t seen it yet, have a look:

Brody was awarded Best Actor for the second time in his career, for his performance in the film The Brutalist, as László Tóth, an architect who comes to America to rebuild his life.

Prior to all of this though, the actor was on the red carpet with his partner of five years, Georgina Chapman, and in the middle of an interview when Berry eyed him up.

The incident between the pair has caught wind recently, as people have criticised Brody’s actions, but it looks like the floor is level.

In the video, she can be seen approaching Brody, apologising to Chapman, then taking him for a playful lock of their lips.

He seemed unbothered, smiling and giving her a peck on the cheek afterwards, before Berry went over to Chapman and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

Chapman didn’t seem too bothered by the viral moment, seeing the funny side.

As for the first kiss at the Oscars 22 years ago, Brody had just become the youngest ever winner of Best Actor, at just 29 for his role in The Pianist.

When he went up on stage to collect his award from Berry, he laid a kiss on her, despite her not expecting it, before starting his speech saying: “I bet they didn’t tell you that was in the gift bag.”

But in a recent interview with Variety, he has since admitted: “We live in a very conscious time, which is a wonderful thing,

“And nothing that I ever do or have done or would’ve done is ever done with the intention of making anyone feel bad.”

However, Berry has also commented on the original kiss, saying Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live back in 2017: “I was like, ‘What the f**k is happening right now?’ That is what was going through my mind.”

Berry admitted she gave Brody something of a pass, as she understood the surreal feeling he was experiencing after winning Best Actor.

“I was there the year before and I know the feeling of being out of your body,” she added. “I just f**king went with it.”

It looks like there are no hard feelings at all between the pair, with Brody taking the latest kiss light-heartedly, while Berry poked fun at the controversy around it all.

Wildest moments at the 2025 Oscars

Conan O’Brien takes aim at Donald Trump and Drake

Late night host O’Brien had jaws on the floor with several of his gags – after he’d graphically emerged from a nude Demi Moore’s body in a skit referencing The Substance.

In his opening monologue, he hit out at Emilia Perez star Karla Sofía Gascón, whose controversial tweets were widely believed to have torpedoed her awards chances.

He quipped: “Anora uses the ‘F-word’ 479 times – that’s three more than the record set by Karla Sofía Gascón’s publicist.”

In a later dig on Trump’s disastrous meeting with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, he said: “Anora’s doing great tonight. Two awards. I think Americans are finally ready for someone to stand up to a powerful Russian.”

For context, Anora sees a stripper face off with a Russian oligarch and his wife after a shotgun wedding with his son.

Most controversially, O’Brien said around the halfway point: “Well, we’re halfway through the show, which means it’s time for Kendrick Lamar to come out and call Drake a pedophile.”

This, of course, a reference to Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show, where he performed Drake diss track ‘Not Like Us’.

Kieran Culkin’s chaotic acceptance speech

Culkin took home the first award of the night, winning Best Supporting Actor for A Real Pain. This apparently means his wife Jazz owes him two more children.

He said in his acceptance speech: “About a year ago, I was on a stage like this and I very stupidly, publicly said that I want a third kid from her because she said if I won the award she would give me the kid.

“Turns out she said that because she didn’t think I was going to win.”

He then said she’d promised him four if he won an Oscar, before adding ‘let’s get cracking on those kids’.

He also dropped the first f-bomb of the night, calling fellow nominee Jeremy Strong ‘f**king great’.

Morgan Freeman gives heartbreaking Gene Hackman tribute, but In Memoriam segment causes controversy

Freeman was on hand to introduce the In Memoriam segment, and delivered an emotional tribute to Gene Hackman, who was found dead in his home alongside his wife Betsy Arakawa and his dog last week.

He said: “This week, our community lost a giant and I lost a dear friend.

“Like everyone who ever shared a scene with him I learned he was a generous performer and a man whose gifts elevated everyone’s work

“He received two Oscars but more importantly he won the hearts of film-lovers all over the world.”

He says Hackman once told him: “I don’t think about legacy, I just hope people remember me as someone who tried to do good work.”

Freeman added: “Gene, you’ll be remembered for that and so much more. Rest in peace, my friend.”

Controversially, Michelle Trachtenberg, who died last week, wasn’t mentioned in the In Memoriam segment.

Anora sweeps awards and Sean Baker makes history

Anora, which stars Mikey Madison, was nominated for six awards and took home five, including Best Picture.

Its director Sean Baker has now become the first person ever to win four Oscars in one night: for Best Editing, Best Original Screenplay, Best Director and Best Picture.

He said in his acceptance speech for Best Original Screenplay: “I want to thank the sex worker community – they have shared their stories, they have shared their life experiences with me over the years.

“My deepest respect, thank you, I share this with you.”

Madison also picked up the gong for Best Actress for the film.

Meanwhile, Adrien Brody took home Best Actor for his performance as a visionary architect who survives the Holocaust in The Brutalist.

And Zoe Saldaña made history by becoming just the third Latina to win Best Supporting Actress, and the first American of Dominican origin to win the award.
