Jennifer Lawrence Reveals the Surprising Reason Filming With Jonah Hill Was Nearly Impossible
Have you ever wondered which Hollywood co-star would leave even a seasoned Oscar-winner absolutely incapable of keeping a straight face? Turns out, for Jennifer Lawrence – who’s wracked up blockbusters from The Hunger Games to Silver Linings Playbook and seems to have done it all – her most impossible scene partner wasn’t some colossal diva or notorious method actor, but the eternally unpredictable Jonah Hill. Yep, the biggest challenge on set wasn’t on-screen chemistry or dramatic tension, but trying (and failing, gloriously) not to dissolve into laughter while being ruthlessly roasted by Hill’s improv skills. I find it hilarious that Jennifer, surrounded by icons like Meryl Streep and Leonardo DiCaprio, could be so undone by one man’s one-liner marathon.
Isn’t it wild? One minute you’re ready to save the world, the next you’re fighting the giggles on a big-budget Netflix set. Oh, Hollywood… never change. If you’re as curious as I was about what made those “Don’t Look Up” moments so side-splitting—and maybe what secret weapons J-Law herself has up her sleeve—take a little detour and LEARN MORE.
Perhaps underrated by some, Jennifer Lawrence has quite the list of performances to her name.
Not just Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, the 34-year-old has starred in the likes of Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, Joy and the X-Men film series.
So with that, she’s worked with all kinds of celebrities across the industry. And with Hollywood’s track record and well, just people being people, you can probably assume that she’ll have worked with a few less-than-pleasant co-stars.
But the one person she claimed to have found it ‘really, really hard’ to film with might surprise you – Jonah Hill.
Although, it’s not because he was a pr*ck, quite the opposite really,
Lawrence and Hill starred alongside each other in the 2021 Netflix film Don’t Look Up.
The Superbad star played White House Chief of Staff Jason Orlean while Lawrence played astronomer Kate Dibiasky with Meryl Streep, Leonardo DiCaprio and Cate Blanchett also making up the ensemble cast.
The Hunger Games icon shared behind-the-scenes memories of the film with Vanity Fair.
“It was really, really hard filming with Jonah, and just not ruining take after take, laughing,” the star explained. “We one-time dedicated an entire day to him just improv-ing insults at me. It was amazing.”

Lawrence went on to praise Hill’s talent for improv, adding that ‘he and ‘Meryl were the only ones who should do that kind of improv.’
“I mean, he’s just a comedic master. I mean we all did some [improv] just not as well as Jonah,” she said.
One scene that featured in the film’s trailer shows Hill’s character telling Lawrence and DiCaprio’s to: “Sit tight and assess.”
“The sit tight comes first then you’ve got to digest it, that’s the assessment period,” he says. Lawrence reflects: “See? That wasn’t in the script Jonah.”
And while filming Don’t Look Up sounded like a barrel of laughs, J-Law does remind readers that its sentiment is a lot more serious.

When asked what the ‘biggest thing’ people take away from the film should be, she replied: “To stop handling information the way that we do now, where there’s like the truth and science and then politics, or you know, personal feelings involved.
“You know, we should all just be on the same page of, you know, taking care of our planet, and taking care of mankind. World peace would be my hope.”
The non-stop laughter isn’t the only tidbit of film BTS Lawrence has shared over the years after it was even reported the actor makes things equally uncomfortable for her co-stars as well.
Her The Hunger Games co-star Liam Hemsworth said she would eat foods such as garlic or tuna and then not brush her teeth before the pair locked lips.
Luckily for Hill, his interactions with Lawrence didn’t involve any kissing.
