It’s really not going to be very long until the world’s ‘first flying car’ goes on sale, so you’d better start saving.

Flying cars have been one of the main symbols of a technologically advanced future but the idea that someone would go ahead and make one, let alone sell it to the public, is an idea that’s hard to comprehend.

However, Slovakia-based company Klein Vision have been working on the AirCar, a two-seater vehicle which can drive on the road and fly you into the skies as well.

There are some practicalities to be considered, it’s quite a large car that you’d struggle to slide into a parking space at the supermarket, but then again this is a car with WINGS.

Speaking of wings, we’re not quite in that wonderful future where you can just hop into your flying car and zip between ground travel and air transport.

You will still need a runway to get the AirCar off the ground, and presumably a similarly accommodating patch of land for you to bring it back to Earth on.

This thing is two metres wide, 1.8 metres tall and a whopping 5.8 metres long so it’s not going to be the nimblest of automobiles though I remind you once again this is a flying car.

Don’t worry about the wings constantly sticking out and causing untold carnage upon every pavement you drive by, they tuck into the car when you’re not using them and only come out when you need them, and with a wingspan of 8.2 metres that’s a very good thing.

When you’re flying the car’s tail also pops out a bit further so it becomes about seven metres long when in flying mode.

If this is all sounding like your cup of tea then rejoice, because according to Top Gear the AirCar is supposed to go on sale in ‘early 2026’, otherwise known as the start of next year.

It’ll cost a pretty penny (we cannot stress enough that this is a flying car), with you needing to spend about £600,000 to get your hands on one but if you’ve got that kind of money to drop on a new car then you’re probably the sort of person who was thinking about buying a light aircraft as a hobby.

If you’re wondering how far you can go and how fast things can get in the AirCar, it has a fuel range of about 620 miles and a cruising speed of 155mph.

You won’t be able to go above 10,000ft in it, but you probably won’t need to because you should still be able to get where you’re going.

This thing was certified as airworthy back in 2022, so welcome to the new reality where flying cars are actually a thing.

Now all you need is enough money to buy it and a knowledge of airstrips in your local area, and you might also want some lessons in how to land it without crashing.
