Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like the saga of Bennifer is the romantic equivalent of rebooting your laptop only to watch it crash again—while the whole internet’s watching? Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, Hollywood’s most on-again-off-again power couple, had us rooting for true love’s comeback tour in 2021 after nearly two decades apart . Remember all the memes, the giddy headlines, and those paparazzi shots that practically screamed, “We’re really doing this again, guys!”? Makes you wonder—does anyone ever truly win at post-divorce PR, or does the heartbreak just get glossier with each Instagram post? Jennifer Lopez has made a pretty harsh admission that sends quite a message to her ex.

Her ex and also her ex-ex, Ben Affleck (obviously). Oh, Bennifer, the celebrity couple that fans were all so excited to see reignite their relationship back in July 2021.

That romantic reunion came almost two decades after they called off their engagement in 2004, following almost two years together.

Lopez and Affleck married in Las Vegas in July 2022, and everyone seemed pretty happy about it. But, amid a whole load of rumours of separation and a cancelled tour, the ‘Let’s Get Loud’ singer filed for divorce in August 2024.

Snooping through court documents, it was eventually revealed that Bennifer had actually split well over a year prior, in April 2023.

Their divorce was finalised back in January and they’ve been spotted together a few times since, with it said they’re remaining ‘on friendly terms’.

And Lopez has now taken a bit of time to reflect on it all while dealing a bit of a blow to Affleck in the process.

Chatting with Lee Cowan on yesterday’s (28 September) episode of CBS News Sunday Morning, the actor called the split and the personal insight she picked up during the whole situation ‘the best thing that ever happened to me’.

“Because it changed me,” the 56-year-old explained. “It helped me grow in a way that I needed to grow.”

Lopez is currently doing the rounds to promote her new musical film, Kiss of the Spider Woman, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in the same month she finalised her divorce from Affleck.

And working on that while dealing with everything going on in her personal life was a ‘really tough time’ for the ‘On the Floor’ singer.

“Every moment on set, every moment I was doing this role, I was so happy, and then it was like, back home, it was not great,” she recalled.

“And it was just like, oh, you know, ‘How do I reconcile this?’”

While it sounds like she might have been going through a bit of a nightmare, appearing in Kiss of the Spider Woman is pretty much a dream come true for Lopez as it marks her first time being in a movie musical.

During a Q&A back at Sundance, the ‘Waiting for Tonight’ singer said she’d been ‘waiting for this moment my whole life’.

The film currently has a decent 83 percent from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and is set to release in October.
