A boy accused of killing his father after he took away his Nintendo Switch on his 11th birthday has made his first court appearance.
Clayton Dietz was led in handcuffs and surrounded by probation officers as he was taken into court looking stoned faced and wearing a black hoodie.
The boy is accused of shooting his father Douglas as he slept after an argument over his Nintendo Switch.
Officers found Douglas on his back with a gunshot wound to the head at the family’s Duncannon home at around 3am local time, according to an affidavit cited by WHP.
Jillian Dietz, Clayton’s mother, told officials that she and her husband went to bed after singing ‘Happy Birthday’ when she was woke up by a loud noise, and a smell similar to fireworks.

She noticed something dripping and realised it was blood on the bed, as Douglas was unresponsive.
When Clayton walked into the bedroom, Jillian shouted something like ‘daddy’s dead’, to which the boy yelled, ‘my dad’s dead,’ while running down the stairs.
Court documents state that the father’s gun was locked up in the house, yet Clayton managed to find the key in his drawer.
It is then said that while looking for his confiscated Nintendo Switch in the gun safe, he found the revolver instead.
Clayton then ‘pulled back the hammer and fired the gun at his father’.
When police asked Clayton what he thought would happen, the boy said he was ‘mad’ and that he ‘had not thought about that’.
Mother Jillian said he told her “I killed my dad. I hate myself.”

Clayton arrived at Perry County Courthouse in New Bloomfield on Thursday afternoon for the preliminary hearing that he waived.
CBS 21 reported that the boy tripped over himself while appearing in court, while also telling his mother that his handcuffs were hurting.
Speaking after the hearing, Dave Wilson, the child’s attorney, said that he wants ‘to try to get him into juvenile court’.
A GiveSendGo fundraiser has since been set up to ‘support Jillian during unfathomable loss’.
“In a single moment, her world was shattered, and she is now walking through profound grief and shock that no family should ever have to endure,” the fundraiser read.
“She is facing the sudden loss of her husband and is now carrying the overwhelming weight of navigating life, grief, and healing in the midst of circumstances no words can adequately describe.
“Right now, she needs space to grieve, to breathe, and to simply survive one moment at a time—without the added burden of financial stress.”
At the time of writing, $4,344 has been raised from a $10,000 target.
