Kelly Osbourne Breaks Silence on Brutal Backlash After BRIT Awards—What Really Happened?

Have you ever noticed how some people use the internet like it’s an Olympic event—and their chosen sport is flinging shade at strangers? Honestly, the art of the troll is alive and well, especially when it comes to celebrities daring to show their faces in public. Take Kelly Osbourne, for example. She bravely hits the BRIT Awards—looking every bit the icon as she and her mum accept a Lifetime Achievement Award for her legendary dad, Ozzy. Emotions are raw, speeches are heartfelt, and what do some onlookers zero in on? Not the legacy celebrated, not the bittersweet family moment—but Kelly’s appearance. Sigh . Have we become so desensitized that people forget there’s a real human scrolling through those vitriolic comments, often in their most vulnerable moments?

It’s funny—well, tragic-funny—how trolls act like their words float into the void, never realizing the calamitous ripple effect they cause. Kelly, however, isn’t about to sit back and let the digital mob unleash “a special kind of cruelty” without a fight. There’s a real lesson (with biting British humor) here about compassion and self-awareness—and just maybe, how none of us should be booed offstage for simply showing up and facing life’s toughest acts. Eager to find out exactly how Kelly claps back and why empathy beats mockery every time? LEARN MORE.

Kelly Osbourne has called out the people who trolled her over her appearance at the BRIT Awards.

She and her mum Sharon were at the music awards ceremony to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of her dad Ozzy, with them making a speech where they affectionately called him ‘the most humble egomaniac you could ever meet’.

Sharon said: “I’m honoured to accept this award from my gorgeous husband, this Lifetime Achievement Award. God knows, I wish he was here to accept it himself.”

Kelly added that she wanted to say ‘thank you for loving my father as much as we do’ and jokingly said ‘up the Villa and Birmingham’ which got some light-hearted boos from the BRIT crowd in Manchester.

Sadly, she faced some actual trolling from people criticising her appearance and she’s responded by telling them they were indulging in ‘a special kind of cruelty’.

Taking to Instagram, Kelly posted a message on her stories where she hit out at the trolls for going after her when she was ‘going through the hardest time in my life.

She wrote: “There is a special kind of cruelty in harming someone who is clearly going through something.

“Kicking me while I’m down, doubting my pain, spreading my struggles as gossip and turning your back when I need support and love most.

“None of it proves strength; it only reveals a profound absence of compassion and character. I’m currently going through the hardest time in my life.

“I should not even have to defend myself. But I won’t sit here and allow myself to be dehumanized in such a way!”

It’s not the first time in recent weeks she’s responded to trolling over her appearance as last month she commented: “Literally can’t believe how disgusting some human beings are!”

She also wrote: “This too shall pass, but like, holy f**k.”

Last year following her father’s death she told trolls to ‘f**k off’ as she talked about the reaction she’d got from people after losing Ozzy, saying most of them had been ‘lovely’ and they’d ‘helped me get through this time since losing my father’, but not everyone had been so kind.

Kelly had said she’d been on the receiving end of some ‘disgusting, horrible, mean, brutal comments’ and didn’t know what the people making them ‘expect from me’.

“The fact I’m getting out of bed, facing my life and trying should be more than enough. I should be commended for that,” Kelly had said as she addressed the people leaving unkind comments for her to read.

“To everyone leaving these sick comments, you need to take a strong hard look at yourself because these things you’re saying about me is how you feel about yourself.”
