Police made a horrifying discovery at the home of a man who allegedly had a stockpile of stolen body parts.

Cops in Hungary announced they had found a hoard of skulls, bones, limbs – and even a heart in a jar – after raiding a Budapest apartment belonging to the 30-year-old man.

Investigators say the suspect, who is employed at a local hospital, acquired the macabre collection from work and by digging up dead bodies in abandoned cemeteries.

Hungary’s National Bureau of Investigation announced that the man had been taken into custody after being apprehended in the country’s capital last Wednesday (17 June).

Officials reportedly received a tip off claiming that he had been stashing body parts at both his home and his workplace.

According to police, the man works as an orderly at a hospital in Hungary.

Officers subsequently descended upon the man’s apartment in Budapest in wake of receiving the tip and found an array of chilling objects.

Police said that there were skulls, a complete lower leg and a hand inside the flat, while there was also a reconstruction of a human face prepared from facial skin.

Bones stored inside a suitcase were also discovered at the property, while a jar containing a heart was also seized by investigators.

Officials are working to determine whether this is human or belongs to an animal.

The Associated Press reported that the 30-year-old confessed that he had collected the body parts while being quizzed by cops.

He even allegedly told investigators that he had ‘prepared food‘ from his stash, which he later ate.

Police described the suspect as a man who is ‘passionate about anatomy and pathology, and likes to dissect animals’ in a statement announcing his arrest.

Cops believe that the hospital worker got his hands on the body parts thanks to his place of employment, while he is also alleged to have been digging up bodies that were laid to rest in ‘abandoned cemeteries’ in Slovakia and Hungary.

The man remains in custody and is currently being held on suspicion of the illegal use of human bodies.

His devices – including a computer, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, SIM and data cards – have been seized by police amid the ongoing investigation.

Forensic experts are set to examine the body parts that were recovered, Hungarian police said.

Officials explained that further charges could be lodged against the suspect upon the completion of this, as the analysis will help determine the origin of them.
