Sydney Sweeney Dares Tom Cruise to Top Her Death-Defying Airplane Stunt

What’s more nerve-wracking: launching a new website in the middle of a Google update, or standing upside down atop a biplane with nothing but your wits and some goggles between you and gravity? If you asked Sydney Sweeney, she’d probably tell you the latter—though honestly, both might require a change of underwear . Here’s the thing: most celebrities stick to the safety of green screens and stunt doubles, but Sweeney’s out here channeling her inner Tom Cruise, throwing down the gauntlet right on Instagram with a fearless wing walking stunt. I mean, who knew the Euphoria star wasn’t just breaking the internet with wild storylines but was actually breaking through the clouds—literally . As I watched her spiral and roll through the UK skies, a part of me wondered: is this how you get over algorithm anxiety? Maybe. Or maybe she’s just showing the world a new definition of “need for speed”—no SEO hacks required . If you think the digital world is cutthroat, try hanging off a plane at 8,000 feet and taunting the king of Hollywood stunts! It’s enough to make you want to stay tethered to your ergonomic office chair . Worried you missed the high-flying action? Don’t sweat—here’s your front-row ticket: LEARN MORE.

Sydney Sweeney told Tom Cruise to ‘watch out’ as she took part in a nail-biting wing walking stunt that saw her turned upside down.

The 28-year-old Euphoria star took to Instagram to share a jaw dropping clip of her wing walking on a plane mid-flight.

Captioning the clip, Sweeney referenced Top Gun star Cruise, who is known in Hollywood for carrying out his own daredevil stunts and wing walked in last year’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.

In the clip, Sweeney could be seen standing atop the wing and was securely strapped in with a pair of safety goggles alongside the caption: “What out Tom Cruise.”

The plane could then be seen completing several turns and rolls, with Sweeney completely upside down at one point.

Rather her than me.

According to the comments, it appears as though the wing walking stunt was carried out in the UK with the aptly named Wing Walk Company commenting: “You were brilliant….we LOVED having you! 👏👏” on the post.

The official Top Gun also commented on the clip, writing: “Feel the need for speed.”

However, it was actually Cruise flick Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning that saw him perform a very similar – albeit slightly more terrifying stunt.

In the movie, Cruise dangles from the side of a biplane before jumping through the air onto another.

Speaking about filming the scene, Cruise revealed the plane had been hitting speeds of 140mph while 8,000 feet in the air.

While most of us would give that scenario a big ‘nope’, the 64-year-old Hollywood said that it was something he’d been wanting to do for years.

Again, rather him than me.

“Few things inspire me quite like an aerial sequence,” Cruise said.

“Since I was a kid I always wanted to do wing-walking. I saw an old black and white film. I was like man, what would it be like to do that?”

And these sort of stunts don’t just look dangerous on-screen, they also come with some big real-life risks.

Mission: Impossible writer and director Christopher McQuarrie told GQ that as the stunt had been filmed in South Africa during winter there was a chance Cruise could end up with hypothermia.

He explained: “The wind is hitting him not only at the speed that the plane is flying but the wind coming off the propeller. It’s hitting him at well over a hundred-plus miles an hour.

“There were times when Tom would have to lay down on the wing to rest between takes.

“You can’t tell if he’s conscious or not.”

The things some stars will do to get the perfect take, eh?

Meanwhile, Sweeney wasn’t shy about tackling some NSFW scenes during the third season of Euphoria, which wrapped up earlier this year.

Sweeney’s character Cassie got into creating adult content that saw her dressing up to resemble a baby and a dog as well as one ‘weird as f**k’ in the show’s finale.

Some of the scenes prompted a backlash from fans of the show, but Sweeney hit back, saying: “Do I agree with all of Cassie’s decisions? Would I personally make these choices? No, of course not.

“But I’m an actor and that’s my job and this is Cassie’s life and to be able to do her justice and play her how she’s to be played is to bring Sam’s vision to life and to play Cassie in the most vulnerable and insane way possible.”
