The first full trailer for the Harry Potter HBO series has dropped and it gives the newest full look at Hogwarts and new versions of the beloved characters.
Janet McAteer’s McGonagall features heavily along with the new cast of kids set to play the main trio of the show, but some fans think they’ve spotted a scene which will end up being Harry’s parents James and Lily.
Harry Potter’s first season will cover the events of the first book, the Philosopher’s Stone, with HBO recently confirming Kit Harrington will be playing Lockhart in season two after Nicholas Hoult dropped out of the role for ‘scheduling issues’ after a severe backlash online.
The series is set to follow on from one of the most successful film franchises of all time, with the final Harry Potter movie making over $1 billion worldwide and catapulting Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint into superstardom.
A teaser trailer was released earlier this year but this full trailer at a chunky two and a half minutes marks the most in depth look that Harry Potter superfans have received since the HBO remake of the book series was announced.

Fans on Reddit were full of praise for the trailer, with one commented saying: “oh gosh i got a little teary eyed let me rewatch 10 more times”
The Harry Potter superfan added a few comments after a rewatch saying it gave them ‘whimsical and cozy vibes’ before adding: “That scene at the bridge lighting up, our first look at james and lily?”
Another fan commented to add: “That’s the impression that I got, James and Lily.” Previously leaked concept art of the series had fans speculating that a scene looking incredibly similar would be James and Lily being shown in the first episode prior to their deaths at the hands of Voldemort.
James and Lily Potter, whilst an infrequent part of the books, are an incredibly important casting decision for super fans and the actors set to play them have not yet been announced.

Daniel Radcliffe had been proposed as a possible casting for James online but is now too old to play the role, intended for someone in their mid-20s, and he has stated he has no intentions in playing a part on the series.
Speaking to Comicbook.com he said: “My understanding is that they’re trying to very much start fresh, and I’m sure whoever is making them will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere.
“So I’m definitely not seeking it out in any way. But I do wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world, and I’m very excited to have that torch passed. But I don’t think it needs me to physically pass it.”

Hagrid
The late Robbie Coltrane captured hearts of the nation in his role as lovable groundskeeper Rubeus Hagrid, and stepping into those shoes for the series is funnyman Nick Frost, who fans have no doubt will fall into the character with ease.

Albus Dumbledore
For the first two films, Richard Harris portrayed the wise wizard until his death in 2002. The character was then taken over by Michael Gambon for the remaining six films, who sadly died in 2023.
Now, legendary actor John Lithgow will be playing Dumbledore in the series, much to fans’ delight.

Professor Snape
Alan Rickman did a stunning job in his portrayal as Slytherin’s leader, Severus Snape. And while he will never be forgotten for his role following his death in 2016, British actor Paapa Essiedu is set to step in for the series and will no doubt match the expectations that Rickman naturally set.

Professor McGonagall

The Dursleys
Harry’s neglectful adoptive parents, Petunia and Vernon Dursley, were played by Richard Griffiths and Fiona Shaw in the films, with his spoilt cousin Dudley being played by Harry Melling.
In the series, Daniel Rigby and Bel Powley will portray the parents, while newcomer Amos Kitson will play Dudley.

Gilderoy Lockhart
Kenneth Branagh famously portrayed the fraudulent wizard in The Chamber of Secrets in 2002, and after it was announced that Nicholas Hoult would be playing him in the series, it was revealed shortly after that, after dropping out due to scheduling conflicts, Game of Thrones star Kit Harington will be taking on the role.
