Inbetweeners Star Spills Mysterious Movie Secrets in Unintentional Cameo Slip

Is anyone else feeling the sense of déjà vu—or is it déjà-y—every time The Inbetweeners cast teases a comeback? Honestly, it’s as if the universe just can’t resist giving Jay Cartwright another go at adulthood, and I’m here for it . What does your adolescence look like if you know Jay (and his pathological tall tales) will outlive global warming, TikTok trends, and my attempts at keeping a secret? So, when word slipped out that James Buckley might’ve accidentally revealed a bit too much about the upcoming third Inbetweeners flick (presumably while being paid to congratulate strangers on their twins via Cameo—because of course, that’s a thing now), curiosity just hit another gear . The original foursome, now reportedly returning on Netflix, has always had a knack for making the ordinary painfully hilarious and, let’s be honest, painfully familiar . With hints, speculation, and maybe a hi-vis jacket giving us a peek at where our favorite “legend” and the crew will pick up—could this installment finally answer the age-old question: Can the boys ever actually grow up? Or are we all doomed to relive our most embarrassing moments, just with better streaming options and patchy facial hair? LEARN MORE

James Buckley may have let slip a detail about the upcoming third Inbetweeners movie in a video.

The co-star is set to again reprise his role as the loud-mouthed compulsive liar Jay Cartwright in the latest movie.

Once again he will join Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, and Blake Harrison, who will return to play Will, Simon, and Neil in the project which has been confirmed by Netflix.

This will be the third feature length film from The Inbetweeners, with the first released in 2011 and charting the foursome’s misadventures on a lads’ holiday to Malia in Crete.

A second movie followed in 2014, with the four now at university or at work, and visiting Jay in Australia, after he claims to be living in a mansion and being a popular DJ, which shockingly turns out to not be true.

It’s not quite clear where the third movie will pick up, though some eagle-eyed fans believe that they may have spotted a clue in a video that Buckley shared on Cameo.

Cameo allows users to find their favourite celebrity, if they’re on there, and pay a fee for the celebrity to record a short message, and is popular for occasions like birthdays or weddings, or this case welcoming twins.

In an appearance on the platform, Buckley had shaved off his beard and dyed his hair blonde, suggesting he will soon be starting filming as Jay again for the new project.

Either that or he just happened to fancy changing things up a bit in a way that closely resembled the character.

But the Cameo video, which was shared to TikTok by @SindyStargfire, may reveal more than it first seems about the new movie, which presumably will pick up some years after the last one, with the four characters now adults, legally at least if not in the sense of their maturity.

Buckley is seen in a grey room for the video, where he congratulations a couple on having had twins together.

Fans were quick to notice a detail in the video which may have given some hint about what Jay will be up to in the upcoming movie, and this was what he was wearing.

Buckley was wearing a blue polo shirt and a hi-vis jacket, which in itself may not seem that unusual, until people spotted that it had a patch on the front which said ‘Cartwright Plant’ – the surname of his character.

This set fans to speculating over whether this was part of a costume, and what that might mean.

Taking to Reddit, one fan shared their thoughts, writing: “I mean, it was kind of obvious Jay would end up working for his dad. I mean, he spends all day jumping JCBs over cement mixers, making a grand a week.”

Another agreed, writing: “Probably works for his dad. It’s known that his dad is at least a manager (if not owner) of a construction business, as that’s where Jay did his work experience”.

But others had a more hopeful outlook for Jay’s future in the third movie, writing: “I think he’s successful and rich in his job, but scummy, and he’s still a great source of laughter through being pathetic.”

Of course, this is not confirmed at the moment, and fans will just have to wait and see to find out for sure!
