It’s the kind of health drama that no coach—or anyone else—wants playing out in the limelight. You have to wonder: when you’ve been such a titan on the pitch, can the body finally throw in the towel in the most unexpected ways? For a man who even sent assistants to take on interviews while he rested on the sidelines, this moment is a stark reminder that even legends are, at times, frightfully human. Vincent Kompany has been rushed to hospital after collapsing during a Bayern Munich training session.
According to a report from German outlet Bild, the Bayern boss is currently suffering from a viral infection, which has triggered issues with ‘old scar tissue’ and left him struggling to move around.
After collapsing at the club’s ground, Kompany was taken to a hospital in Munich for further treatment.
The news comes after the 40-year-old had been struggling with his health for the past week, having to lie down on a sofa in his coach’s room during Bayern’s 6-1 win over RB Leipzig last weekend.
Kompany also sent out assistants to perform post-match interviews, which he repeated for a press conference ahead of Bayern’s Champions League match against Arsenal.
He was also absent from training ahead of the mid-week clash, which saw Bayern draw 2-2 with Mikel Arteta’s side.
