Chrissy Metz Unveils Dramatic Weight Loss—But the Real Shock Is What Happened Next

Ever wondered if the answer to silencing the dreaded “food noise” is hiding in a prescription bottle? Chrissy Metz, the powerhouse we all adored on This Is Us, sure has me thinking—and chuckling a bit, honestly—about just how much life can pivot when science and self-determination collide . Losing 100 pounds is jaw-dropping enough, but what really stands out in Chrissy’s story is the symphony of side effects: enhanced mobility, a friendlier relationship with food, and, dare I say, a newfound mental quietude that’s rarer than a guilt-free donut . Between perimenopausal curveballs, relentless knee aches, and the glare of the spotlight, Chrissy’s open take on GLP-1 medication isn’t just another weight loss celeb testimonial—it’s a candid, almost poetic commentary on health, resilience, and the freedom to tune out critics (and inner demons alike) . Now, if only medications came with a “mute button” for unsolicited opinions… Ready for all the wild, insightful details? LEARN MORE

Chrissy Metz has opened up about the effect that using GLP-1 medication has had on her life.

The actor, who is known for her role in This is Us, shared that she had lost 100lbs after using GLP-1 medication to assist with weight loss, and this has affected her health in other ways too.

While originally prescribed for treating diabetes, GLP-1 medications also help to limit appetite due to their impact on the way that the body processes blood and insulin, meaning that combined with diet and exercise they can support weight loss.

Since her weight loss, Metz spoke to Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet for the Nocturne premiere about how it also had an impact on her life outside of the weight loss as well, calling it ‘super helpful’.

“I think, honestly, being able to run around a stage eight shows a week was like really, really amazing,” she said, sporting a gorgeous green velvet gown for the occasion.

“I’m perimenopausal, I got knee issues, there’s things going on,” she added.

“Just the mental capacity to have other things to think about than obsessing about the food noise, that’s been super, super helpful. It’s been great.”

It’s not the first time that Metz has opened up about her journey using GLP-1 medication, as she has previously spoken about keeping up with strength training while using the medication.

In a post shared to her Instagram story she showed off her bicep and said: “You know, I love all my blips and blops and my flips and flops, but she’s making progress on the strength training journey.”

Metz added: “She’s making progress. We like progress. That’s my progress report.”

She had also previously spoken to PEOPLE about how she had tried several different methods to lose weight but couldn’t get anything to work for her

“I’m in perimenopause, and there were obesity issues within my family and with my father, and I felt like I’ve tried so many modalities, whether it was diets or therapy, and none of it really worked for me,” she said.

Metz also told the outlet how the medication helped her to change her relationship with food as well.

“It’s so nice not to be obsessing about what I’m going to have every minute, even as I’m still consuming the meal,” she said.

“I just vilified food for so long because I was taught that it was bad, and you shouldn’t eat this or that.”

Not only that, but she said that it has helped with joints and inflammation as well.

And it’s been helping me be more mobile and have less joint pain and inflammation, and run around onstage, and just do things that would have been much more difficult several pounds and inches ago,” she said.

As for how people might react to her decision to use GLP-1 medication, Metz said that people are going to have thoughts no matter what she does, but that’s not what’s important to her.

“It doesn’t matter, because like I always say, they’re not in my life,” she said. “They’re not in my doctor’s notes. They’re not in the hereditary issues my family has. My life is my life, and I have to do what’s best for me.”
