Film director Michael Mann was rushed to hospital and injured after reports claimed he had accidentally shot himself in the leg at a gun range.
The veteran filmmaker, 83, was attempting to holster his gun during the training session at the Los Angeles range Saturday (31 October) when the weapon blasted.
The Los Angeles Police Department, along with Los Angeles Fire Department are reported to have attended the scene, with police confirming the incident to TMZ.
Representatives for Mann told the media in a statement: “On Saturday, at a gun range, a weapon accidentally discharged while holstered resulting in a superficial injury to film director Michael Mann.
“He was treated and is being released.”
A source close to him had said the incident occurred while the director, also an experienced target shooter, was taking target practice.
Despite the emergency response, the injury was said to be considered as minor.
The 83-year-old is an award-winning director and producer, who has won two Primetime Emmy Awards and been nominated for four Academy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and won a BAFTA Award for producing The Aviator.
Over the last five decades, he has directed acclaimed works including Heat, The Insider, Public Enemies and was executive producer on Miami Vice.
