The Boys star Valarie Curry has shared a behind-the-scenes ‘secret’ about her infamous season four breastfeeding scene.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, Amazon Prime series The Boys explores a far more grittier and, more realistic, take on the superhero trope – exploring what would happen if you gave real life people superpowers.

And spoiler alert – they go rogue and use their powers to better themselves instead of society.

But that’s what you’d expect right?

The Boys is equally famous for its boundary pushing nature, with the show being known for its violent, provocative and lewd nature.

One scene was so explicit it wound up being banned in India, while the series finale carried a warning statement due to its unfortunate release date following the attempted assassination of Donald Trump in Pennsylvania.

Unsurprisingly, things can occasionally be a little awkward behind-the-scenes as well, with Curry revealing her ‘most uncomfortable’ scene involved the moment her character Firecracker begins to breastfeed Homelander (Antony Starr) – but not in the way you’d think.

During season 4, episode 6, we learn that Firecracker has been taking medication which allows her to lactate as a sign of devotion to Homelander after

promising she’d do ‘anything’ he wants to prove her devotion.

However, the logistics of having a fully grown man wearing a superhero suit perched on her lap across several takes proved to be pretty uncomfortable.

Responding to a question from a curious fan at Belfast’s comic-con, she said: “Here’s a secret about the infamous scene between Homelander and Firecracker in episode six.

“When he was on my lap, those eagles [embellishments on his suit] were digging into my leg,” she explained, to which co-star Laz Alonso replied: “Oh no, noo,” while the crowd gasped in shock.

Filming multiple takes of the scene was likely pretty uncomfortable for Curry, as she then added: “I had Little Eagles on my thigh for like 2 hours! So that was physically uncomfortable.”

Alonso then revealed his most ‘uncomfortable’ moment was filming season 3 episode ‘Herogasm’, which involved a lot of nakedness between cast members.

“Up until lunch it was uncomfortable,” he recalled. “The next six hours, you’ve seen so much nakedness that it’s just like ‘Hey what’s up man can you grab me that water over there’, like nobody cared anymore.”

Meanwhile show runner Eric Kripke has since revealed how the breastfeeding scene came into existence, telling Variety the idea spawned from ‘Well, what is the thing Homelander needs most in the world that no one else could give them?’.

The topic of discussion inevitably circled round to desire to receive maternal love.

“The actual breastfeeding scene makes me cover my mouth every time. It’s just so stunning, and wow,” he added.

“Just what it means to the characters — the actors’ balls in pulling that off. I mean, it’s just my chef’s kiss to all of them.”
