Footage of a car show is doing the rounds online, for one specific reason.

It’s nothing to do with the latest hyper cars on show, an outlandish, costly design feature, or even a viral interview at the event.

No, it’s to do with the fact that a one-minute video posted of people at the event sharing their opinion on the vehicles behind them was entirely AI-generated.

Technophobes, look away now.

It’s been created with the help of Google’s state-of-the-art video generation model, known as Veo 3.

The AI tool was launched on Tuesday (20 May) and has unsurprisingly caused an uproar online, with a street interview already making headlines.

Veo 3 allows users to add sound effects, ambient noise and dialogue to their artificial creations, allowing them to appear as real as possible.

Basically, it’s about to get a lot harder when it comes to verifying the authenticity of videos online.

In a blog post from Google DeepMind product vice president Eli Collins, he explained: “Veo 3 excels from text and image prompting to real-world physics and accurate lip syncing.”

The video of the car show has garnered hundreds of thousands of views on X, with users completely shocked at how real the clip feels.

Many called the reality of it ‘crazy’, while others reacted with shocked emojis.

Another user wrote: “Fully AI car show that never happened. I feel like there is money in fully faking something like this…”

A second pointed out that ‘NOTHING EXISTS’ in the video, adding: “Neither the actors, nor the locations, nor the voices. Everything was generated by Google’s Veo 3 AI via simple prompts. How cooked are we now?”

Someone else pointed out that ‘heavy implications’ may come from this, such as ‘the reliability of things we see online’, also mentioning that streaming platforms could suffer from the introduction of this technology.

The saving grace so far is that most of the dialogue in the video didn’t make much sense, so that might be an indicator of how people can keep an eye out for now.

But knowing Google, they’ll patch that up in no time at all, and we might just lose touch with reality and struggle to tell the difference online.
