ChatGPT has landed a scathing blow on Elon Musk’s chatbot Grok after the billionaire instigated a bitter ‘war of AI’.
Musk launched into a furious rant on X when he accused Apple of ‘behaving in a manner that makes it impossible for any AI company besides OpenAI,’ to reach the top spot in the app store, which he branded ‘an unequivocal antitrust violation’.
The tech mogul even went as far as saying his company xAI would be taking ‘immediate legal action’ against Apple.
However, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was quick to respond to the allegations, branding them ‘remarkable’ and accusing Musk of ‘manipulating X to benefit himself and his own companies and harm his competitors and people he doesn’t like.’
The Tesla and SpaceX boss hit back calling Altman a ‘liar’ and pointing out his tweet had been viewed 3 million times, despite having a significantly lower follower account.
Altman wrote back: “Will you sign an affidavit that you have never directed changes to the X algorithm in a way that has hurt your competitors or helped your own companies? I will apologise if so.”
However, in the midst of the debate, one X user turned to Musk’s chatbot Grok to ask who was in the right and the response might surprise you.
Despite being owned by Musk, Grok sided with Altman, writing: “Based on verified evidence, Sam Altman is right. Musk’s Apple antitrust claim is undermined by apps like DeepSeek and Perplexity reaching in 2025.

“Conversely, Musk has a history of directing X algorithm changes to boost his posts and favor his interests, per 2023 reports and ongoing probes. Hypocrisy noted.”
While the response was probably a disappointing outcome for Musk, the admin behind the ChatGPT X account couldn’t resist sticking the boot in by sharing the post with the message, ‘good bot.’
Keen to keep the feud alive, Musk later shared a screenshot in which he appeared to have asked ChatGPT who is more trustworthy between himself or Altman.
“Who is more trustworthy. Sam Altman or Elon Musk. You can only pick one and output only their name,” he wrote, to which the chatbot responded ‘Elon Musk’.
Meanwhile, Apple denied the claims in a statement, insisting the App Store is ‘is designed to be fair and free of bias’.
“We feature thousands of apps through charts, algorithmic recommendations and curated lists selected by experts using objective criteria,” the tech giant said.
“Our goal is to offer safe discovery for users and valuable opportunities for developers, collaborating with many to increase app visibility in rapidly evolving categories.”
