A series of disturbing photos were discovered at the scene of a young couple who died from fatal gunshot wounds.

Lisa Gurrieri, 19, and Brandon Rumbaugh, 20, from Arizona, US, were celebrating their one-year anniversary on a camping trip between 17 and 18 October, 2003.

The couple headed to Bumble Bee Campsite in Yavapai County after borrowing a white Ford F-150 pickup truck from Lisa’s mother. They told family members that they would be returning the next day.

Brandon and Lisa’s bodies were later found in the back of the truck which was parked ‘at a secluded dirt area’ in the camp.

According to Silent Witness, who offered a $10,000 reward for anyone with information, ‘they both had fatal gunshot wounds’.

At the crime scene, investigators found a disposable camera around 100 feet from the truck, which contained a number of photographs.

Two were of Lisa and Brandon in the truck bed, which are believed to be the last photos of them alive.

Another picture showed a light fixture inside an unidentified building, which police hoped could provide some more information about the possible killer’s identity.

Lisa’s mom, Paula, told ABC15 in 2023: “I called them to check on them… I had to ask her if she was there yet.

“She said, ‘No, we’re not there yet, Mom, we got so many miles to go.’ I said, ‘OK, just be careful,’ and that was the last conversation I had, other than ‘I love you,’ the normal.

“The day that she went missing, I knew that there was something wrong. Call it a mother’s instinct, I don’t know what it was, but I knew there was something wrong.”

Commander Tom Boelts from the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said: “The camera, we were able to show that it was purchased while they were on their way up there.

“They purchased it at a grocery store in the Scottsdale area the day that they left. We were able to recover some of the photos off of that camera.

“Two of them were pictures of Lisa in the bed of a truck and then Brandon in the bed of the truck.

“Then, there’s also another picture that was overexposed – we believe when the camera was thrown – that just shows a very small corner that was not overexposed.”

In an update two years ago, Boelts said there are ‘still persons of interest’ and that they have interviewed ‘a lot of people’.

“We’re just waiting for something to break – somebody to come forward to tell us something or DNA or some other test that may be coming down the pipe,” he added.

The case remains unsolved.
