The new year is coming up and if there’s any one thing you can make a resolution on to improve things in your life, it’s committing to getting enough sleep.
Getting a proper kip and remaining undisturbed during the night is really the key to avoiding all sorts of health problems, so making sure you’ve got a good eight hours in bed each night is really crucial.
However, for some folks it’s more the getting to sleep than anything else that’s the problem, they can get into bed at the right time and allocate themselves plenty of chance to rest properly but when their head hits the pillow they stay awake awkwardly for ages.

You don’t often remember the moment you actually drop off to sleep, but you can certainly remember spending ages lying awake in bed with the thought of ‘why can’t I get to sleep’ rattling around in your noggin.
If that sounds like you then someone might have a solution, as TikToker Emily Kessler explained that there’s something she does which has helped her and everyone she knows get their head down for the night.
She said: “If you have trouble sleeping at night I’m about to share with you a really strange and weird hack for sleeping that sounds like it makes no sense but it’s helped me and literally everybody else I’ve ever told it to.
“When you’re trying to sleep at night and you’re laying in your bed what I recommend is taking a few nice deep breaths, calming your body a little bit and then start to visualise a house.

“Not your own house, but a house that you know really well. I use my grandmother’s old house.
“You basically visualise yourself slowly walking up to the house, noticing all the details about the outside, going up to the door, opening the door, walking in, seeing the layout and then slowing going through each room noticing things in as much detail as possible.
“Making your way through every room, seeing the art, the furniture, the layout there is something about this that distracts your thinking busy mind enough to let you fall into sleep, I’ve literally never made it upstairs at her house.”
The results seemed rather varied, as the comments had people who said they’d just tried it and it worked and others who gave it a go but didn’t find the gates of the land of nod opening up to them.
If you’re having trouble sleeping then maybe put the phone down and give it a try, just remember to set your alarm beforehand.
