He said who should get the update and who might want to leave it

A former Apple employee has given a bit of a warning to iPhone users over the recent software update.

Apple have just released their iOS 18.1 update and some folks have already been complaining about battery life, while others are enjoying the new features that come with the release of Apple Intelligence, Apple’s new AI system.

The update has made some major modifications to the phone in your pocket, provided it’s one of the newer models that can actually make the most of the new stuff you’ll get if you download it.

And Tyler Morgan, who says he’s a former Apple employee, took to TikTok to warn some iPhone users that this latest update might not be for them.

He ran through a number of things you could do with the stuff you got in the new update including the AI features, saying the new Siri was ‘a little more intelligent’ and tried out the Smart Replies feature.

Call recording, email summaries and picture editing are in the mix, but Tyler warned people that what you’d get out of iOS 18.1 kinda relied on the kind of phone you had.

“If you don’t have a 15 Pro or higher you basically get jack s**t,” he said, and the last frame of his video was a message simply saying ‘Samsung AI is better’.

This isn’t the first time Tyler has talked about things iPhone users might like to know.

In the past, he’s said that if you want to keep your phone’s battery life healthy then you ought to avoid regularly turning it off as they’re ‘designed to stay on’, and said that various features like AirDrop also really drained the life out of the device.

He also encouraged Apple customers to switch off Bluetooth and the ‘background app refresh’ feature if they wanted to save battery life, and how much juice your phone is using seems to be a common thing among iPhone users.

Tyler has also told Apple users in the past to steer clear of certain updates if they don’t have the hardware to make the most of it.

When iOS 17 was released, he claimed that people with an iPhone 13 or older might want to skip the update, saying it could make their phones slower.

Conversely, he said that since the update was made for the iPhone 15 people who had one of those really ought to be downloading it.
