In April 2025, Armando Vidal, a man who had been homeless in San Luis Obispo, California, bought two Triple Red 777 scratch-off tickets at Sandy’s Deli & Liquor. He initially believed one ticket was worth only $200, and even after checking again thought the top prize might be $100,000. When store manager Wilson Samaan scanned the ticket and reviewed the printout, it showed that Vidal had actually won a $1 million prize. Because Vidal had no car, Samaan drove him to the California Lottery office in Fresno so he could safely claim the winnings. The lottery later confirmed the prize and identified Vidal, who became homeless after an injury in 2008, as the winner. Vidal has said he plans to use the money to secure housing, keep a couple of dogs, and invest for long-term stability.
