A London flat priced at £2,650 per month has been labelled a ‘death trap’ by people searching for a place to live in the city.

I stress ‘to live’ there, as some of them really reckon they’d be on the edge if they tried to sleep in this flat. On the edge as in one of the beds appears to be dangling over a hole in the floor.

Located in Walthamstow, east London, the property caught the attention of searchers online (and promptly went viral on TikTok) when they noticed one of the ‘three bedrooms’ appeared to be accessed via a hatch in the kitchen ceiling.

So, whoever ends up drawing the short straw and bagging that room would seemingly have to go up a ladder in the middle of the kitchen to go to sleep.

While it’s not exactly a secret that looking for an affordable place to rent in the capital right now is pretty rough, this place has still shocked potential tenants.

With the bed seeming to hover over the hole in the floor when the hatch is opened, some claimed it should be ‘illegal’.

And when you’re up in there, the images appear to show the ceiling at such a low height that the unlucky roomie wouldn’t even be able to stand up properly. All that seems to fit in there is the bed and some lamps.

OpenRent claim to be ‘proud to offer’ this property, describing it in the listing as a ‘delightful three-bedroom flat in a great location’.

But the ruthless users of TikTok don’t quite agree as images of the flat went viral, opening it up to a whole load of mocking as well as anger from house hunters and renters.

The user who shared the photos showed off the bedroom in the attic as they listed the issues.

“When you get to the top of the ladder, this is what you’re greeted with. You can actually see the hatch at the bottom of the bed,” they continued.

“Imagine falling through there? Or imagine bringing a girl back after a night out.

“She’s like ‘where’s the bedroom’, you’re like ‘oh you actually have to open the hatch in the kitchen, clamber up the ladder after you’ve had a few drinks and somehow make your way into bed.”

When contacted for comment, the landlord claimed there ‘was an error in the ad’ and it had now been ‘corrected’, with an image of a third bedroom being added.

But this only appears to have a single bed in it, with the images of the bed over the hatch remaining in the listing – suggesting it is a fourth bed in the house for the maximum ‘six tenants’.

Users speculated over the safety of this ‘diabolical’ place, wondering how the bed even got up there in the first place.

One user replied: “How do you even put the sheets on.” As a second joked: “Second bedroom is probably a hammock under the stairs, next to the water meter (en suite).”

While another simply branded it a ‘death trap’.
