Myers’ Father Was An Important Influence
Eric would often show the young Mike and his brothers his love of British comedy. Sometimes, he would wake up the boys late at night to watch episodes of Monty Python or Benny Hill. His father’s influence proved to be a beneficial one.
Myers began performing in commercials at two years old. Eight years later, he was in commercials for British Columbia Hydro with Gilda Radner playing his mother. As a 12-year-old, he appeared on King of Kensington.
Myers Was Accepted Into The Second City
Myers graduated from Stephen Leacock Collegiate Institute in 1982. After high school, the Toronto native was accepted into The Second City Canadian touring company. Myers would soon find himself on his own for a short period of time. He would take his comedy talents to London where he was one of the founding members of The Comedy Store Players.
However, he returned to Toronto when his father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
His Return To Toronto Helped Him Even More
When Myers returned home, he came back to The Second City in 1986, where he was a cast member in the program’s main stage in Toronto, Second City Theatre. Two years later, the Canadian moved from to Chicago where he trained and performed with the Improv Olympic.
