Apple have launched another software update for all those people with devices that have their little ‘i’ in front of their names, this time it’s iOS 18.1.
The juiciest part of this update is the support coming for the tech company’s new AI support called Apple Intelligence, though it’ll only work on certain devices. So, if your hardware isn’t relatively new, you won’t be getting the software.
Apple seem pretty chuffed with the introduction of Apple Intelligence and have promised you’ll be able to do all sorts of stuff with it, and Tim Cook declared that it’s so good at protecting your privacy that they’ll give $1 million (£771,500) to anyone who can crack it.
You might be tempting fate a smidge there, Tim.
Still, Apple is optimistic that you’re really going to love iOS 18.1, but they would be wouldn’t they?

However, there are some iPhone users who aren’t so pleased with the new update, and surprise, surprise the common complaint is about the battery life of their device once they’ve downloaded the update.
Battery life is a pretty common complaint when it comes to smartphones, and while the best remedy is putting the thing away for a while, there are some people who want to get the most out of their phones for longest.
Naturally, they’ve hopped onto social media for a bit of a grumble, slamming the ‘ridiculous battery drain’ that comes with the iOS 18.1 update and complaining that they’ve ‘noticed battery drain from checking email and scrolling X‘.
Others have said they specifically saw a noticeable battery drain when ‘you switch on Apple Intelligence’, so perhaps it’s using the new features or having them on which is really giving your device a kicking.

However, there have been other iPhone users who’ve stuck up for the new update and said that, if anything, it’s actually boosted their battery life.
They said the update had been ‘running pretty smooth so far’ and their phone had ‘actually decent battery life’.
Another said they were getting ‘insanely efficient’ battery life from the new update and could enjoy ‘8-12 hours easy’, which must be nice for them.
While battery life is a regular issue for iPhone users, there are plenty of people who’ve given advice on what to do.
Optimised charging is worth looking into if you want to prolong the long-term battery life of your phone, while there are some apps you may wish to steer clear from.
