Margaret Qualley has admitted it was a ‘huge problem’ when her family wanted to watch the films she’d made in 2024.

Despite starting acting professionally over a decade ago in 2013’s Palo Alto, last year was arguably one of the biggest in Qualley’s career, with the 30-year-old featuring in Drive-Away Dolls, Kinds of Kindness and Coralie Fargeat’s ‘graphic’ body horror flick The Substance, which also starred Demi Moore.

However, the only draw back to having a successful year as an actor is knowing that your relatives and loved ones will be queuing up to see all of your films – which is a little awkward if they feature NSFW scenes.

For Qualley, she had to have this awkward conversation three times over as her first film Drive-Away Dolls featured two lesbian best friends who find themselves embroiled in a criminal scheme after heading out on a road trip.

This role was followed by Kinds of Kindness, which featured several raunchy scenes before she finished the year in The Substance.

With her roles in none of the above being something, you’d sit down and watch with your parents.

So how did Qualley’s family react to her 2024 filmography? Thankfully we don’t have to speculate as she already revealed her relatives’ reactions during a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon.

“It’s been a rough year for the family,” she joked before beginning to list all of the times she’s had to deal with a red-faced family member or convince someone, like her dad, not to head down to the cinema and watch one of her films.

“We started the year with Drive Away Dolls,” she said. “My mum came to that premiere and she’s like ‘My friends can’t see this movie, no one can’.

“After that I did this movie called Kinds of Kindness... For anyone whose seen that movie, you can understand why it was a huge problem when my dad called me on the way to see the movie with his friends.”

Last up was a ‘sweet, Christian’ childhood nanny who watched Qualley in The Substance and promptly texted her thoughts once the credits rolled.

Fortunately Qualley is unlikely to face the same issue this year, with the actress appearing in the long-awaited sequel Happy Gilmore 2 – a role which musician husband Jack Antonoff helped her land through lying – alongside Adam Sandler, Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald which will likely be much more appropriate viewing.
