Matthew McConaughey Reveals Shocking Frequency of Bizarre 'Naked Bongo' Episodes Since Arrest

So here’s a wild one for you: Matthew McConaughey, the dude from Interstellar who made space look cool, has this infamous ‘naked bongo’ episode that he’s apparently revisited about 45 times since 1999. Yup, you read that right—forty-five times! Imagine turning a moment where you’re caught drumming naked and smoking a bit of green into a legendary saga that’s now part of celeb lore. Back then, the Texas cops stormed his house, dragged him down with nightsticks, and all he was doing was jamming out windows open, minding his own cosmic vibe. Now the grin-worthy part? He’s fully owning it in an ad with his wife, dramatically reading the police report while on bongos, because if you’re gonna embrace your past, you might as well beat your own drums. Makes you wonder—how many of us have a bongo moment waiting to be legendary? LEARN MORE.

No one-hit wonder, Matthew McConaughey has admitted that his ‘naked bongo’ incident has been repeated many, many times.

Since he was arrested over it in 1999, the Interstellar actor claims it’s happened ‘about 45 times’.

Ok, so, for those too young to remember or simply not caught up on the McConaughey lore, the star had a run-in with police in Texas where he was arrested at his home.

At the time, the now 55-year-old was playing bongo drums while naked and smoking marijuana.

The celeb was arrested for ‘disturbing the peace’ and in his memoir, described the night as ‘a jam session’ when he decided to undress, open up the windows and ‘smoke a bowl’ while listening to music. However, two police officers then ‘barged’ in ‘unannounced’ and wrestled him ‘to the ground with nightsticks’.

And now McConaughey is totally embracing the incident in a new ad for Pantalones Organic Tequila with his wife, Camila Alves.

As the pair do a dramatic reading of the police report from back then, the video even comes with an intro from the voice of Law and Order, Steve Zirnkilton.

“What follows is a real police report,” he says. “No names have been changed, ’cause he was totally guilty.”

Alves then reads from the report while McConaughey plays the bongos – obviously.

While McConaughey recalls the incident being at 2:36 in the morning and the report saying it’s 2:37, the actor jokes they were late.

“On arrival to the location, I could easily hear very loud music, dancing, and playing bongo drums,” she reads, while of course sipping from a tequila glass.

“The nude subject yelled, ‘Why are you here? You can’t be in here.”

As Alves reads from the report, McConaughey repeats back his own words while beating away on the bongos with his eyes closed.

The report also notes that the star’s eyes were ‘glassy and bloodshot’.

“And?” McConaughey replied.

As the pair toast their glasses, Alves said she can picture the incident so clearly it’s like she was there with her husband adding: “Because it’s happened about 45 times since.”

In his memoir, the actor said he was told he would also be charged with resisting arrest and had replied: “You broke in my house! F**k yeah, I resisted.”

In the end, the drug-related charges and resisting arrest were dropped. McConaughey pleaded guilty to a noise violation charge and paid a $50 fine.
