Look, despite whatever jokes may get made, there’s no denying that successful influencers and content creators put in a graft. It might just be a very different kind of graft to what you’re used to.

They’ve got to be absolutely on it with filming, keeping on top of stats to ensure optimal engagement and edit stuff that people will actually want to watch on social media.

Maybe they even regularly put time aside to film live streams to flog stuff to us all.

And it seems some really are putting a graft in with that as people have been left baffled after seeing a Chinese streamer using ‘hundreds’ of phones to livestream herself.

Filming on them all at the exact same time, she appeared to be flogging fashion items to post on multiple platforms and presumably, accounts.

In clips, perfectly tiered rows of phones on tripods face the influencer, kit out with professional lighting and a number of crew.

She then seems to be trying on the different items of clothing as this live streaming form is said to be a huge market in China with e-commerce booming.

There are even events set up for these streams, with hundred of thousands of people drawn into watch as often celebrities or influencers will host them.

It’s reported that live streaming generated over $150 billion (£118.5 billion) in the e-commerce market in 2022, per Euromonitor with it said Chinese shoppers are perhaps the most ‘mobile-oriented’ in the world.

And all of this seems to be reflected with the absolute mad set-up seen in the clip as the huge collection of phones allow for streams to target such a vast number of viewers.

Some users were baffled by the setup, asking: “Why all the phones?”

As another echoed: “I don’t get why so many phones are necessary.”

Over on Reddit, people suggested it’s likely that the phones are hooked up to ‘multiple accounts on multiple platforms with slightly different keywords and such’.

Others also pointed out it’s likely about ‘quantity over quality’ for the streams while some said it looks like something very ‘dystopian’.

“It’s impressive she went this for,” another added. “It’s not easy to setup all of this, takes a lot of work and technical know how.”

And that reflects the real business in this whole live streaming world as general manager at AliExpress UK, Bonnie Zhao, told Vogue Business: “China’s embrace of live-streaming commerce has transformed shopping into an interactive and entertaining experience, driving sales through real-time engagement and influencer marketing.”
