Okay, maybe a pedicure is a safer bet than Ed Gein’s handiwork, but really—Netflix sure does know how to reel us in with macabre fascination, doesn’t it? When I saw Charlie Hunnam’s unsettling transformation as the infamous ‘Butcher of Plainfield’ for Monster’s latest installment, I thought, “Who needs sleep anyway?” It’s wild how Hollywood can get us sympathizing one moment and recoiling the next… Seriously, what kind of dinner parties do these casting directors attend? Ed Gein, grave robber, skin collector, human trophy-maker. If your chills have chills, you’re not alone—I’m right there with you, popcorn half-eaten and eyes glued wide. And yet, here we are, ready to unpack one of America’s darkest stories, all through the lens of a British heartthrob. Now that’s what I call a plot twist ! LEARN MORE

Charlie Hunnam stars as Ed Gein in the latest trailer for Monster, an anthology true crime series on Netflix.
The streaming platform has previously covered serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer and parent-murderers Lyle and Erik Menendez in the past, but they have now moved on to Edward Gein in their third instalment, an American murderer, suspected serial killer and body snatcher.
Also known as ‘the Butcher of Plainfield’, Gein was known for his crimes in and around his hometown of Plainfield, Wisconsin, came under the spotlight in the 1950s when it was discovered that he had exhumed corpses from graveyards before cutting off parts of their skin or body to keep as human trophies.
British actor Hunnam plays the titular character, and you can view the trailer here:
