Tom Hanks and his son Chet have joined forces to recreate an iconic scene from Forrest Gump.

As the child of actors Hanks and Rita Wilson, Chet is no stranger to the limelight, with the 34-year-old previously trying his hand at both acting and modelling over the years.

Chet has also dabbled in the world of music, famously going viral for his song ‘White Boy Summer’ in 2021.

Four years later and Chet has once again returned to the world of music, this time with country-rock band Something Out West.

The group has now released their latest song ‘You Better Run’ and, as the son of Hanks, Chet decided to draw inspiration from his father’s work when shooting the video.

Because you couldn’t have a member of the Hanks family singing a song about running without referencing the 1994 Oscar-winning classic. I mean, come on, it’s literally set up for you on a plate.

The video sees Chet take on his father’s famous role as Forrest Gump, including reeling off his life story to anyone who sits down on a bench next to him, his stint on a shrimping boat – which doubles up as a place for the rest of the band to perform – and, of course, several running scenes.

The references don’t end there either, as a bemused Hanks himself then shows up in the video and playing an ‘Uno reverse’ on the stereotype of children being embarrassed by their parents’ actions.

We can only wonder how the conversation to convince Hanks to take part in the video went down.

Although initially confused by the idea of his son dressed as Forrest Gump and singing about running while running. Hanks eventually comes around to the rather tongue-in-cheek music video and can be seen laughing and embracing his son in the closing scenes.

‘You Better Run’ is Something Out West’s second single, following the release of their debut track ‘Leaving Hollywood’ earlier this month.

The group is made up of Chet and bandmate Drew Arthur, with the pair previously meeting while living together in California.

Meanwhile, Forrest Gump would go on to be remembered as one of the biggest roles of Hanks’ career, with the actor beating both John Travolta (Pulp Fiction) and Morgan Freeman (The Shawshank Redemption) to the Academy Award for ‘Best Actor’.

The film has also earned him millions, thanks to a pretty clever clause which the star inserted into his contract.
