The mum who was sentenced to life in jail after being found guilty of murdering her daughter has continued to plead her innocence from behind bars, despite her then seven-year-old son testifying against her.

The shocking case of Amanda Lewis has returned to the public eye this week after her son, who testified against her in a Florida courtroom at the age of just seven, broke his silence for the first time in 17 years.

AJ Hutto, who is now 24 and living in a loving environment with his adoptive family, spoke to the Daily Mail last week about his appearance in court, which saw his mother convicted of drowning his sister, Adrianna Elaine Hutto, in 2008.

He said: “I just told them exactly what I saw word for word. It was heartbreaking. You know, she’s my mother.

“But there was also some relief that what we were going through at the time was finally coming to an end.

“It’s court appointed that we cannot see each other, and I’ve wanted to keep it that way, just so nothing’s getting brought back up. All the feelings and emotions and the traumas getting brought back into light.”

AJ also presented drawings as evidence to the court, which tragically depicted his mother drowning her daughter as a punishment.

However, back in 2016, Lewis was visited in prison by Piers Morgan as part of ITV drama Killer Women, and she continued to deny that she had killed Adrianna and gave her own version of events.

She said: “We had went outside. The kids were playing. had to step back inside. Somewhere along the point she had pulled the wagon by the pool. Somewhere along the line she fell in.

“Adrianna was playing in the pool. I looked out the back door and that’s when I can barely see her floating in the pool.”

Despite her differing version of events to AJ, she also suggested that she still loved her son and didn’t blame him for his testimony.

She said: “I love him no matter what, I will always love him. He is in no way blame him for what happened.”

Following four days of proceedings, the jury found Lewis guilty of first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse and in March of 2008, she was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
