Snoop Dogg has been criticised for his comments about the LGBTQ+ community and how they are represented in movies for children.

The ‘Gin and Juice’ rapper, 53, said he is ‘scared to go to the movies‘ due to the inclusion of LGBTQ+ characters.

During an appearance on the It’s Giving podcast last week (20 August), the West Coast hip-hop star said he didn’t know how to respond to his grandson’s questions about 2022’s Lightyear.

In the Pixar flick, there is a same-sex kiss between Commander Alisha Hawthorne (voiced by Uzo Aduba) and her wife Kiko during a montage celebrating their relationship.

This scene was initially cut but was restored after strong pushback from Pixar employees about Disney’s history of censoring LGBTQ+ affection.

Producer Galyn Susman said that the kiss highlighted the life and love of Buzz (voiced by Chris Evans) throughout his mission.

Snoop – whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr – said on the podcast: “They’re like, ‘She had a baby — with another woman’.

“Well, my grandson, in the middle of the movie is like, ‘Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!'”

He thought at the time: “‘Oh s**t, I didn’t come in for this s**t. I just came to watch the goddamn movie.'”

As his grandson kept on asking, the musician added: “‘They just said, she and she had a baby — they’re both women. How does she have a baby?'”

He reflected that the experience ‘f**ked me up’, adding: “I’m like, scared to go to the movies.”

“Y’all throwing me in the middle of s**t that I don’t have an answer for,” Snoop added.

“These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.”

His comments have been met with backlash online, as one person said: “The whining about that Lightyear movie having a lesbian scene in it never ceases to highlight how idiotic the outrage around it was/still is.

“The scene is literally just one of them holding a baby and having their arms around each other. It never implies two women made the baby at all.”

Another wrote: “What a terrible take on the lesbian couple. It’s 2025 & y’all still being homophobic?”

While a third added: “Wow. I am so embarrassed that I ever liked him. And I spoke positively about him to my kids… That me, a girl, and my wife have. Why does everybody hate us? Why can’t we be represented in anything without straight people freaking out?

“It’s not an agenda. Sometimes we just wanna see ourselves in media and entertainment. Is that so wrong?”

Someone else also said: “Wow this is sad. I thought Snoop was pretty open and accepting. I remember watching this film and seeing a representation of what my family looks like. Two moms and a kid. We are here and we exist.”
