A recent GoPro clip by professional surfer Nathan Florence captures a jaw-dropping moment when the ocean literally folds over, resembling a gigantic wave that threatens to engulf everything in its path. Sure, catching some rays on a calm beach sounds delightful, but this visual will make you think twice before casually paddling out. With nature playing the ultimate prank, just imagine being surrounded by such colossal water—it’s truly terrifying, yet oddly mesmerizing. Are we sure this isn’t just Mother Nature reminding us who’s really in charge? If you’re curious about this jaw-dropping spectacle, LEARN MORE.

Look, before we even get into this, if you’ve got thalassophobia, you probably won’t want to read any more of this.

That’s because a man’s terrifying GoPro footage shows the moment the ocean ‘folded over’ on top of the people in it – not one for if you’ve got a fear of the ocean.

And yeah, I know that sounds dramatic, but when you see it, that’s really what it looks like is happening.

Sure, paddling out in the sea and hopping over the little rolling waves with your pals on holiday is all fun and games, but there’s no hopping over this absolute beast.

A literal man eater, you better watch out because it’ll chew you right up if the video is anything to go by.

Professional surfer from the north shore of O’ahu, Hawaii, Nathan Florence shared the short clip to YouTube with the caption: “THIS IS NOT A WAVE BUT THE ENTIRE OCEAN FOLDING OVER.”

It shows a surfer riding a towering wall of a wave which eventually rises so high it that thanks to the slow motion effect, the camera angle and light, it almost looks as though the water it is crashing into sinks down into the wave.

It could be two waves from opposing directions actually crashing into another, forming this absolutely massive wave.

Therefore, we get this effect of the ocean ‘folding’ over as the water meets, with the surfer vanishing from sight as other surfers are amazed by the sight.

Users commented with the fairly understandable reaction to the mad video: “I find the ocean terrifying beyond words.”

Another provided some context that it was likely filmed at Teahupo’o, a popular surfing spot said to be home to the ‘heaviest wave in the world’.

Particularly difficult to ride, the heavy waves here are said to have claimed the life of at least one surfer.

They are typically between six to 10 feet but have reportedly measured in as high as a whopping 20 feet before.

While the ride can be relatively short, it’s said to be very fast and intense.

Other users commented to say: “OMG, The sensation of that vast amount of water folding in on itself was just immense. I felt it in my heart. I NEVER want to be in that.”

As another echoed: “This looks incredibly beautiful and f*cking terrifying at the same time.”

While one simply said: “I put on a life jacket just to watch this.”
