This Woman’s Shocking Revelation About Hood Wearing Will Change Everything You Thought You Knew
So, here’s a mind-boggler for you: what if everything you thought you knew about wearing your coat’s hood is… utterly wrong? Yep, according to the latest viral sensation on TikTok, we’ve all been strutting around looking a little ridiculous — and freezing while we do it — by wearing those furry hoods the wrong way! With winter breathing down our necks and Christmas jingling closer, those bulky coats are out in force, but are we really getting the cozy warmth we pay for? This isn’t just about fashion faux pas; it’s about functional fur—folded inside to trap the cold where it belongs: outside. Still, some say it’s about style, others blame our ancestors, and a few swear by the wind-breaking fur on the outside. Intrigued? You’ll want to see this for yourself. LEARN MORE.
According to one of the latest viral videos, we’ve been wearing hoods on our coats wrong.
Well, if this woman on TikTok – and a lot of her comments section – is to be believed, we may all have spent years looking a bit thick while trying to get that bit warmer.
It’s the winter season, Christmas is around the corner, and the layers are out in full force – which means that the thickest of thick coats are on display in public.
You’ve likely seen coats with furry hoods if you haven’t got one yourself, and while they’re meant to keep your head a whole lot warmer, the new viral clip suggests that we’re not using the clothing to its full potential due to one specific detail.

Most people wear the hood with the fur on the outside, so the mere suggestion of this being incorrect may stop you in your tracks.
Starting the video simply wearing the hood as most people would, the woman starts to explain why we’ve been doing it incorrectly.
“Guys, you’re wearing your coats wrong. Please stop wearing it like this,” she urged, adding that the fur feature is not meant to ‘be stylish’, but ‘functional’.
Then, she folds it in, pushing the fur to cover your head on the inside of the hood, saying: “You’re supposed to fold it in like this and it covers your ears and it blocks air.
You zip your coat all the way to the top and it blocks air from coming in and you stay so, so, so much warmer.”
She pointed out that leaving it as most do actually allows the cold air to hit you and you remain colder than you could be, essentially mimicking a regular hood.
The video has started a conversation on social media, with some even sharing photos of Eskimos wearing the fur on the outside as a way to protect their eyes and faces from the gusts of wind and snow.

One user pointed out the fashion aspect, saying: “I’m in New York not Antarctica, gotta stay fly,” as another asked: “Wait… we’ve all been doing it wrong this whole time?”
A third pointed out: “Our ancestors did it wrong too if that’s what she meant,” with a different user also explaining: “No, the fur is ment to break the wind before it hits your face.”
“I did this as a kid and kept doing it because it worked. It’s amazing that so many people didn’t know this feature,” one viewer revealed.
At the end of the day, like all aspects of fashion, it’s up to you.
You could be warmer if you folded the fur in, but if you’re going for that chic fur look, then keep it going – as long as you’re not freezing.
