Cash Registers Were Far More Manual
Cash registers required a bit more attention back in the day. As you can see, they had a ton of buttons and they weren’t digital. They essentially functioned as big calculators so the checkout clerk wouldn’t want to make a mistake when adding up the total.
That also meant taking something out of your purchase was more of a hassle, and we don’t even want to think about the complications of returns. These days, many registers are lightweight tablets and have far more functions.
