The hype around Grand Theft Auto VI knows no bounds, with countless gamers across the world waiting on the next sliver of information about what we can expect when it is finally released in 2025.
And with the first anniversary of the first-ever GTA VI trailer being this week, fans have taken to Reddit as rumours continue to grow around when, or if, we will get a second teaser ahead of next year’s hugely anticipated release.
In marking the one year that has passed since trailer one debuted on YouTube, with hundreds of millions of people watching the 91-second glimpse in to life in Vice City, fans noticed one very apt thing about the trailer that has gone unnoticed by many.
The trailer was released one year ago on 4 December, 2023, and currently has 223 million views.
But it’s the song used in the trailer that has got chins wagging in only a way that developer Rockstar can make people do.
The music you can hear in the first GTA VI trailer is ‘Love Is A Long Road’ by legendary US rock star, the late great Tom Petty.
Clocking the song, fans were adamant the song was not only chosen because it is a banger, but also as a cheeky elbow in the ribs of those who love all things Grand Theft Auto.

“It’s obvious now that the song choice was meant for us,” one Redditor posted.
“Love is a long road, indeed.”
Another, who is clearly well down the rabbit hole waiting for an update of any kind, added: “Tom’s last name is Petty, which is crystal clear proof that Rockstar is petty and wants us to suffer.”
I mean, maybe not quite. But it wouldn’t surprise us it Rockstar intentionally chose it due to the allegory that comes with the wait.

After all, a trailer in December 2023 followed by a release in autumn 2025 is quite the wait, especially when very little is being said in the gap between the two points in time.
Despite this, those eager for updates reckon a second trailer is on the way, with fans claiming Rockstar is ‘clearing the way’ for a new reveal this month.
Rockstar also this week updated its YouTube list, which to this day contains just the initial GTA VI trailer.
Whatever happens, fans are living in hope.
