In the age of streaming, it seems pretty pointless hanging on to old boxsets and VHS tapes (yes I am that old) that are clogging up closet space.
But without even realising, you could be holding onto a pretty rare DVD, which if you sold, could pay for your streaming services for the whole year.
To understand why DVD’s are becoming valuable again though, film expert Ryan Toomey says these four factors determine the worth of a film.

“Collectors and cinephiles prize DVDs for their nostalgic value, the desire to own a piece of cinema history, and the joy of collecting,” he explained to The Sun.
“Rare DVDs become popular auction items because they offer collectors the chance to own something unique and often irreplaceable.
“The rarity and the demand among collectors drive up their value.”
Now, the DVD you want to be looking out for is the British zombie movie 28 Days Later.
The DVD version of this film is worth £300 (Fox)
This comes after the newly-found hype surrounding the upcoming sequel 28 Years Later, which sees Cillian Murphy return as a zombie.
The 2002 classic, directed by Danny Boyle, is a post-apocalyptic horror which follows a guy named Jim (Murphy), a bicycle courier, who wakes up from a coma to find a deserted London due to a ‘Rage’ virus outbreak.
Alongside Selena (Naomie Harris) and Mark (Noah Huntley), the remaining attempt to survive against infected humans.
Throughout the film, they also come across Frank (Brendan Gleeson) and his daughter Hannah (Megan Burns), as the group venture to a sinister military base led by Major Henry West (Christopher Eccleston).
At the time of writing, a special edition Blu-ray version in sealed condition is being listed for £299.99 on eBay.
A standard copy, also new, is going for £149.99, whilst even preowned DVDs are selling for around £20-£50, which is still very decent.
But for those who are already paying a s**t tonne every month for streaming services – and just want to watch the film – you’ll be glad to know that it’s now available to stream or rent in the UK on Prime Video, iTunes and the Microsoft Store.
Meanwhile, 28 Years Later is set for a 20 June, 2025 release.
