“Unlock Your Nostalgia: 10 Mind-Blowing ’80s Trends That Will Make You Question Your Childhood!”
The horrible event is something every child learns about in school, but only children raised in the ’80s remember where they were when it happened. Wherever they were, they stopped what they were doing to follow updates on the news.
The Garbage Pail Kids Are Still Gross
We have no idea how Garbage Pail Kids became one of the biggest trends of the ’80s, but they did. The cards took children and turned them into disgusting mutants. Some classics include “Drippy Dan,” “Itchy Richie,” and who could forget “Potty Scotty.”
When the collectible and disgusting cards hit the peak of their popularity, they were banned in several schools. Teachers cited them as being too distracting, although we think there might be another reason. In 2015, Topps released 220, 30th anniversary edition cards for the public’s consumption.
The Oregon Trail And Its Cruelty
“You have died of dysentery” were five of the worst words kids could read on their computer screen. It meant they lost The Oregon Trail, failing to make it by covered wagon from Independence, Missouri to Willamette Valley in Oregon.
The game was originally released in 1971 but didn’t see commercial success until the ’80s, when it became a computer lab staple in elementary schools. At one point the game was so popular it was even bundled with new home computers for kids to enjoy after a long day of “studying.”
