Have you ever been talking to someone and suddenly got a feeling that they don’t like you?

You can’t put your finger on exactly what it is – they haven’t explicitly said it – but there’s just something in the air that feels hostile.

It’s a pretty common feeling but don’t worry if you’ve experienced it. A psychologist has shared five body language signs that might mean someone secretly dislikes you.

Francesca Tighinean is a US-based psychologist who regularly post videos on TikTok about the topic with her 1.3 million followers.

In her most recent video, which has been viewed more than 20,000 times, she shared certain things that can indicate a person’s real feelings towards you.

Avoiding eye contact

One of the easiest ways you can tell if someone doesn’t like you is if they avoid eye contact.

“This may suggest they are trying to avoid deeper connection or conversation,” she explains.

Pursing their lips

“‘Number two, pursing your lips,” she continued, explaining that this key detail can be ‘a nonverbal indication of irritation, stress or disapproval.’

Turning away from you

Francesca then notes that the person’s feet and/or body position can also indicate what they’re feeling.

“Number three, turning their body or feet away from you. This can indicate a desire to disengage. They might subconsciously position themselves toward an exit or away from the interaction.”

Creating barriers

“Placing objects, such as a bag or crossed arms, between you can symbolise a need for psychological or physical space,” she reveals.

“Similarly, taking a step back or maintaining a noticeable distance can suggest discomfort.”

Not smiling

And last, Francesca says that limited smiling and engagement could be a sign they’re not interested.

“A lack of genuine smiles or limited facial expressions signals disinterest or lack of warmth in the interaction.”

Another psychology influencer, Josh Fraser Young, has shared further signs that the person you’re talking to is a hater and claims: “Knowing these will open your eyes to how people truly feel about you.”

According to Young, the number one thing to look out for is when a person downplays your achievements.

Next are people who are nice to everybody but you.

He explained: “If someone shows up for others but refuses to show up in that same way for you, they don’t like you.”

Trying to outshine your achievements and nitpicking at your flaws are also tell-tale signs that they’re not your biggest fan.

So, if you have anyone in your life who does these things, it might be best to make like Frozen’s Elsa and let them go.
