Some studies show that triclosan can disrupt the endocrine system and may increase the risk of allergies in children. Previously, it was used as a powerful antimicrobial, but now it is used to develop antibiotic-resistant bacteria, known as superbugs. In addition, these deodorants often include synthetic fragrances that can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions.

Here’s one for the boys! If you frequently use hair gels, you may need to pause and read the ingredients first.

Some hair smoothing products (aka hair gel) contain formaldehyde, which is a known human carcinogen that causes health issues like respiratory irritation, allergic reactions, and cancer.

Many conventional shampoos contain sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and parabens, which can be harsh on the hair and scalp. SLS is a surfactant that helps create lather but can strip natural oils, leading to dryness and irritation. Parabens are preservatives that prevent bacterial growth but have been linked to potential health concerns.

Choosing organic, sulfate-free shampoos can be a healthier alternative. These products are formulated without harsh chemicals, making them gentler on your hair and scalp.

Other toxic products you probably have in your bathroom cabinet are shaving creams or gels. They usually contain Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), the same non-stick coating used in cookware. PTFE is used to improve the texture and coverage of shaving gels, but it’s a chemical that causes health problems like hypertension and cancer.
