Internet users have claimed that the final pope mentioned in the text, Peter the Roman, is a reference to Pope Francis. This is confusing, as Pope Francis has no connection to the name Peter. Additionally, he was from Argentina, though his family traced their lineage to Italy.
The current pope, Pope Leo XIV, was born Robert Francis Prevost, and while he is of Italian descent, he also has French, Spanish, and Louisiana Creole roots. This also makes him a poor candidate for Peter the Roman.
So, is Peter the Roman yet to come? Or is one of these popes the true Peter the Roman, signaling the end times?
The most likely answer is that this document is a forgery, and details about any future popes or apocalyptic events mentioned in the text should probably be taken with a grain of salt.
