Victoria Beckham has addressed the deadpan facial expressions which she has become known for over the years, speaking about why she’s ‘looked miserable’ for years.
The former Spice Girls member’s self-titled Netflix docuseries came out on the streaming platform today (9 October), with the fashion designer already making headlines in a number of rare admissions to fans.
Its release comes two years after her husband, Manchester United legend David Beckham, had his own self-titled docuseries released on the same platform, which produced viral moments of its own as the ex-footballer opened up on his life like never before.
While Posh Spice featured in that series, she takes centre stage for this latest release and, and uses the opportunity to address the fact that people think she’s a ‘miserable cow’ due to her lack of smiling at public events.

The 51-year-old is known for her stone cold look, noting that people who thought she ‘never smiled’ actually ‘weren’t wrong’.
Speaking during the series, she admitted: “Here’s a fact. I’ve looked miserable for all these years because when we stand on the red carpet, this guy (David Beckham) has always gone on the left.”
Victoria went on: “Now I didn’t realize that when I smile – which I do – I smile from the left. Because if I smile from the right, I look unwell,” adding that she’s actually ‘smiling on the inside’ though no-one can see it.
“That’s why I look so moody,” the former pop star admitted.
Later in Victoria Beckham, she explains that a contributing factor to her lack of smiling is to do with insecurity, as she opened up on her life before joining girl group Spice Girls in 1994.
“I was bullied, awkward, wasn’t particularly sociable, I just didn’t fit in…I desperately wanted to be liked,” the star admitted about her past.
David recalled: “When I first met Victoria, she was smiley, she was bubbly, she was confident..but that started to disappear.”
Following the disbanding of the group in 2001, Victoria said she needed to feel a ‘sense of purpose’, though went on to say she would ‘rather not be that person’ when it comes to being called a ‘miserable cow’.
“I’d love to have the confidence to stand on a red carpet and smile, but I just can’t do it,” the ‘Wannabe’ singer claimed.

The three-part series covers all things Posh, from her time with the Spice Girls to her relationship with ‘Becks’, even covering her work in the fashion industry in the midst of preparing for Paris Fashion Week.
While the former Three Lions captain’s documentary covered more sensitive topics like allegations he had an affair while playing for Real Madrid, Victoria’s solely focused on her life and challenges.
The married couple have four children: Brooklyn, 26, Romeo, 23, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 14.
The only one who did not feature in the documentary was her eldest, Brooklyn, amidst rumours that the family had fallen out with his wife, Nicola Peltz.
It’s a topic that isn’t brought up in the series, despite David sending out an emotional message following his 50th birthday this year, though Brooklyn and Peltz spoke about ignoring ‘fake news’ in recent months.
Victoria Beckham is now available to stream on Netflix.
