Most of us just see it as a way to dress up and be colourful on holiday, but, as it turns out, some fruits have hidden meanings, which could lead to your cruise ship holiday becoming fruity in an entirely different way.

One user recently took to Reddit to ask if it was safe to use pineapple luggage tags.

While they might seem completely harmless, it turns out that pineapples can have a hidden meaning on cruise ships, which could end up with you getting a bit more excitement that you bargained for – or it might be your thing, who am I to judge?

So, it turns out the pineapple has become a symbol for swingers on cruise ships. Particularly upside down pineapples, which lets other swingers know they’re into the lifestyle.

This led one Reddit user to question if bringing their pineapple luggage tags on the cruise was a bad idea, and whether it could attract unwanted attention.

Although, thankfully for the pineapple-loving Reddit user, most of the replies pointed out that it is only upside down pineapples which have been banned by Carnival Cruise Lines, and only when they are displayed at cabin doors, where they are used a symbol to attract other swingers on the ship.

So, it’s good news if you’re a fan of pineapples, you won’t get in trouble for been a little fruity, unless of course you stick them upside down on your cabin door.

Carnival Cruise Line’s Brand Ambassador, John Heald, has also weighed in on the upside down pineapple discussion over on Facebook.

After being asked about events to help singles meet up while on their cruise holidays, another users commented saying ‘upside down pineapple will do the trick’ – and they’re not wrong to be fair.

This promoted a response from the cruise line ambassador, Heald, who responded by saying: “Thank you for mentioning that, those are definitely no longer allowed on the ships and they will be removed from any cabin door.”

So in summary, it’s great news for lovers of tropical fruits, especially those with a particular interest in pineapples. And much less good for those who are sailing the seven seas in hopes of getting a little wild.
