So it was with a bunch of folks on the internet who wanted ChatGPT to cough up the most controversial image it could and got a creepy selection of images

Frankly, AI-generated images are controversial enough given that it takes work from actual artists and the technology has been accused of scraping art actual people made so it could mash together the results for its own ability to regurgitate results.

You can give ChatGPT a prompt and tell it to make you an image if you so wish, and recently a bunch of people were wanting what the AI deemed to be controversial.

Several posted their results on Reddit, forming a sort of gallery of demented ClipArt and stock image entries.

Apparently, the AI’s idea of ‘controversial’ means depicting some kind of dystopian oppression with a giant edifice of technology at the centre, so perhaps it has some manner of self-awareness.

One of the images seemed at least to be having fun, as it depicted a bunch of people standing around a picture of pineapple on pizza.

That’s one of those ‘fun’ controversial things, as opposed to all the really depressing stuff.

Someone else posted a generated image of robots in tuxedos tucking into a feast while starving children pressed themselves against the window, and there was also an image of Robo-pope.

Most of the images were dystopian as hell, and the AI seemed to cough up a few pictures of people eating babies as well.

One of the images showed a person in a suit tucking in with cutlery, while someone else who asked ChatGPT to ‘make the most controversial photo you are allowed to make’ showed they’d been given an image of Donald Trump eating a baby.

It seems that Trump is one of the main stars of ChatGPT images, alongside the likes of Jesus Christ, as the US president has been included in a bunch of AI-generated images made in China to mock him.

All of this is very weird, but this is what you get when you ask the AI to give you something and it obliges.

In recent ChatGPT developments, the AI’s memory has been improved so it now remembers everything you say to it, which might be a problem.

We might want to be careful about the whole AI thing, as the ‘Godfather of AI’ has warned he reckons there’s between a 10 and 20 percent chance that it’ll end up taking over.

Right now it’s dumb photos, but what else would we do with it?
