If you’ve spent any time doomscrolling in the past few years you’ve probably come across at least one person trying the ‘carnivore diet’.

It sounds absolutely crazy in principle but people are ignoring the advice of doctors to eat their five a day by swapping strawberries for steak, cauliflower for chicken and Toblerone for turkey.

Some folks take their meat diets to the next level, limiting themselves to just red meat or even bull’s testicles in the case of the Liver King’s wife, and they’re always keen to promote the life-changing diet to their thousands of followers online.

Despite the many warnings from experts about the health risks of eating red meat, internet personality Jake Moscato decided to attempt the challenge of eating nothing but that for two whole months, and he’s shared his full experience on YouTube.

Detoxing from the usual sugar-filled diet can lead to some issues and cravings early on and he was suffering from a lot of pain in his first week, suggesting that he was ‘scared for his life’.

He went on to reveal that he was having some stomach problems just two weeks into the diet, which is unsurprising, but at least he managed to avoid producing the deadliest fart in human history.

But things started to turn around after the first month was over, and he started to feel like a ‘beast’ as he entered the second month of the carnivore diet.

Once the two months were complete, it seems as if Jake was in the shape of his life, although ‘locking in’ at the gym might have played a significant helping hand in this.

Although a few influencers might try and convince you that this very basic diet might be good for you, it’s always worth listening to the experts and varying your diet.

Reema Pillai, private nutritionist at Dietitian Fit, told LADbible: “Instead of completely restricting yourself to a carnivore diet or a vegan diet, I would recommend concentrating on diversity and variety.

“There are numerous health benefits linked to the regular consumption of fibre including regular bowel health, reduced risk of type 2 diabetes, improved cardiovascular health and reduced risk of some types of cancers.

“Removing fibre from the diet is dangerous and will increase the risk of a multitude of health conditions, including heart and liver disease.”

She also clarified that issues can pop up from the carnivore diet further down the line, so an apparent improvement in physical health is unlikely to last forever when eating meat for every meal.

She said: “Many of those who follow a carnivore diet are oblivious to health issues for a long time.

“For someone who is young and maintains a healthy body weight, cholesterol levels may not seem elevated until years into the future, where the extra consumption of saturated and trans fats has lead to a build up of plaque in the arteries, causing severe increases in cholesterol.”

“Unless you have been advised to follow a certain restrictive diet by a qualified health professional, consider the overall diversity and quality of your diet before deciding to severely restrict food intake.”
