What Happened When a Lifelong Virgin Shocked Everyone With an Unexpectedly Wild First Encounter?

Do we, as a society, secretly enjoy watching the “will-they-or-won’t-they” tension unravel—just so we can text our friends in capital letters when someone finally does? For all its meditative beaches and awkward introductions, Channel 4’s Virgin Island didn’t just dish up a group therapy retreat with a saucy twist… it lobbed a veritable firework into the great British living room. I confess, I watched the final episode perched somewhere between secondhand embarrassment and popcorn-munching anticipation, eyes wide as accountant Dave—yes, accountant, you can’t script this stuff—shuffled his way into the now infamous “zen den” and strolled out a changed man, with much of the island still blissfully unaware. What does it say about us that reality TV’s ultimate taboo still manages to knock the collective socks off both contestants and viewers alike? The fallout (and memes) have been as wild as the show itself . So—are we progressive, prudish, or just addicted to a good binge? Dive into the lives, awkward silences, and fresh starts sparked by this not-so-innocent series—LEARN MORE.

Viewers of the final episode of Virgin Island were left stunned as one of the dozen virgins on the show had sex.

In case you’ve missed the whole thing, the premise of Virgin Island is bringing a dozen people who’ve never had sex aged between 22 and 30 onto an island where they go through a series of experiences guided by ‘sex surrogates’.

In the final episode, broadcast on Channel 4 yesterday (27 May), accountant Dave became the first and only one of the dozen to lose his virginity on the show as he went into the island’s ‘zen den’ with sex surrogate Kat.

The two of them became intimate and while viewers could hear what was going on in the room the camera tastefully cut away to picturesque shots of the island.

Once viewers were allowed to see back in the room they saw Dave and Kat were in bed together discussing what had happened as he said he’d enjoyed the experience.

Kat later said: “I feel good about being the person with him at that important moment.”

Virgin Island viewers were quite surprised by what they saw, though there was plenty of praise for Dave both for losing his virginity and the way he behaved afterwards.

“Dave’s only gone and done it,” one viewer said on social media, while another cheered on saying they’d ‘BEEN ROOTING FOR THIS GUY’.

Fellow Virgin Island star Ben Harris said: “Can we all give a massive shout out to Big Dave, the King of #VirginIsland.”

Someone else posted a GIF of applause as they said ‘Dave didn’t tell the group after’ and praised his behaviour.

While Dave was the only one of the 12 to lose his virginity on the show, the participants have since revealed whether or not they’ve had sex since leaving the island.

Dave’s had a girlfriend for six months now, while The Sun reported that the dozen kept a group chat going where they kept each other updated.

Holly confirmed she’s had sex since the show ended, saying: “I messaged the chat almost as soon as it happened. I was excited to tell them.”

The rest haven’t yet done the do, though Emma and Viraj went on a date after Virgin Island was over but decided not to stay together.

Louisa has agreed to go on a date with Jason, saying she reckons he could ‘laugh the pants off you’.

You can catch up with all of Virgin Island on Channel 4 Streaming.
